NORIA is the project of singer and songwriter Olivier Piette. For the last 8 years, he has lived as a wandering busker in the barren plains of Connemara, carried a 3/4 size child guitar in various other spheres, travelled back and forth to Belgium where he joined and formed several bands.
By the summer of 2007, Olivier eventually settled in Brussels, in order to focus on music full-time. He started to gig on a more regular basis, driven by an innate sense of improvisation. This ever-renewing process was, and still is, one of the major component of his singular playing. Switching between 3 to 4 guitars in alternate tuning, his phrasing ranged from soft and almost muted fingerpicking to sudden and heavy strumming. Using his voice as the core intention of each song, lyrics were shaped from an alchemy of symbols, word-rhythms and sounds.
Several demos were issued in 2007-2009, which eventually led to the making of an album with Matamore, a Brussels based label. Friends and musicians have gathered round, crystallising the organic snapshots into enhanced colorful soundscapes.
A tour is currently being planned.
