About Me

I'm a 28 yr old musician (ha) living in Normanton, West Yorkshire. I'm in 1 band and an acoustic act. I used to be in 3 bands but I've recently curtailed it down to 2.Very soon I'll be making an annoucement about something exciting. Yay!Sherman are a straight out covers band/borderline Jam tribute act. We play over 2 hours of 60's/70's/80's mod punk based heavily on our singers ability to sound just like Paul Weller. Formed over 13 years ago I joined the band in 1998 (dear christ) but I've taken a few sabbaticals along the way. I left for good in 2002. Yeah right. Like that fat bird you kept going back to as a kid I can't seem to shake Sherman off. I rejoined in 2004 and haven't left since. Yet. I play bass for Sherman and it's a lot of fun, we always get good crowds and that's what makes covers bands good. Oh and the moneys nice ;)Shameless who play a mix of Modern Rock covers like Muse, RATM, SOAD, Green Day, Foo Fighters, RHCP and Nickelback plus originals. I have to say Shameless are probably the most rocking band I've ever been in. They're loud, in your face, have a fantastic light show and a real freaking problem getting and keeping drummers (they beat them). Formed from the ashes of popular Cas Rock Band The Tourettes & Dumb & Dumber in February 2008 they're really starting to get established as a top act.Dumb & Dumber are an acoustic act formed of 2 members – myself and Shameless guitarist James Fisher. Started in November 2007 because I'm greedy and Jimmy wasn't getting enough gigs with his then band The Tourettes we play covers ranging from The Beatles to Tenacious D. Nice easy listening stuff and we're really quite good. I'm the singer and Jimmy plays guitar. Jimmy is a top bloke and we have a laugh unlike his missus Louise – she's evil (ner) and always complains that I'm drinking all her coffee. So there you are... those are my current musical projects. For some reason I'm in demand... I've been asked to join 11 bands this year. I have as much loyalty as an underfed cobra. Is your band better than mine? Make me a better offer ;)Musical History:Watershed? - 1995 to 1997 - My first ever band, we played indie music. I used to torture my then bass tutor Gav Coulsen by making him teach me the songs we played. Ah the joys of youth. Bass.Angel – 1997 to, erm, 1997! - Formed from the train wreck of Watershed (their guitarist didn't talk to me for 2 years) we played one gig then split up. Similar music to Watershed but with a girl singer. Bass.Parralax - 1997 to 1998 – Abortive attempt to enter the club scene with some guys from Wetherby. I exited the band having never played a gig. I'm really glad about that. Bass.Sherman – 1998 to Present Date – See above! Bass. The Tourettes – 2002 to late 2004 – A good rock covers band that I got kicked out of for being a pain in the ass. The band was my vocal debut but the adulation and attention I got as frontman was my undoing seeing as it fed my enormous ego to the point where I exploded. They never really recovered from letting me go and asked me to go back about 5 times but I always said no. It worked out for best for both sides in the end as Andy (now in the RogueFlys) joined the band in 2006 and they were better than ever and I learnt a lot about bands and songcraft from collaborating with Julian Shaw in Venetian Effect and then Dead Empires. Along the same lines as Shameless music wise without the heavier elements like System of a Down. They split at xmas in 2007 after their last gig at the Lion in Cas. Bass then Singer.Venetian Effect – 2004 to 2005 – Back to Bass for this Sheffiield indie/folk/pop act. They went more towards indie rock with my input. A really good band without any single member really excelling on their respective instrument. What marked out Venetian Effect was their ability not only to write really good songs but the songcraft which enhanced those songs. Julian Shaw (lead guitar) was a genius in this area and working with him has made my original material sooo much better. Split when Nik (rhythm guitar) left to tour the world with his girlfriend. Bass.Body Of Evidence – 2005 to 2006 – Hooking up with Venetian Effect drummer Frazer Smout again this was a simultaneously superb and frustrating band. Playing Emo/Rock/Metal covers and originals we could have been an amazing band. Derailed in part by the youth of the other members and the deterioration of my working relationship with Frazer we split in 2007. Singer.Dead Empires – 2006 to 2007 – Working with Julian Shaw again this band played mainly rock originals with a political bias to the lyrics. It was my debut on guitar in a band and ridiculously I was the Lead Guitarist. I actually pulled it off. I'm really proud of the work we created in this band it came to a sad end when the singer quit and the drummer bailed as well. We didn't have the heart to carry on and start again so it folded. Lead Guitar.Silverline – 2007 to 2008 – Silverline are the nice indie twin sister to Shameless's Evil Rock side. The two bands sets overlap with songs by Green Day, Foo Fighters and RCHP but where Shameless go Nu Metal, Silverline go indie with The Fratellis, Arctic Monkeys, The Automatic, Primal Scream and Kings of Leon. Again I played Bass for Silverline and it was cool to be playing the songs I listened to at home. With regret I left the band due to being way too busy to keep 3 bands going. Bass.Dumb & Dumber – 2007 to Present Date – See Above! Singer.I'm married with 2 children who smell. I have a dog. It also smells. Here's a pic of my mate JIMMAY!!!!!
