P1/E was formed in Berlin 1979. The original band members were Michael Schäumer, Michael Voigt (Monogam Rec.), Michael Hirsch (Exkurs) and Ute Droste. in the rehearsal cellar the band discovered a fourteen year old drummer, Alexander Hacke, who later came to fame with Einstürzende Neubauten. Before the recording of the legendary 7inch "49 sec romance" Voigt left the band and Thomas Voburka (Weltklang) who worked with Schäumer in the famous Exil restaurant in Kreuzberg, joined as a guest singer. The single was released in spring 1980 followed by two tracks on the groundbreaking Monogam Compilation and two tracks on the "Licht & Schatten" SO36 album in 1981. "49 sec romance" is now a favourite in the Minimal-Electro-Scene.
The following project was TENNIS BOY BLUES. Bandmembers were Yuji Kimura, Michael Schäumer with singer Monika Dietl (Radio4U & Dagowops). Later Mattus Simons, ex bass player and singer with Der Moderne Man, joined. 1985, after a successful gig at the Danceteria in New York City, the band recorded "Imagination" for the short lived Uff-Zick-Records label but the track never got a release. During the Senatsrockwettbewerb TENNIS BOY BLUES competed against Mark Reeder's SHARK VEGAS, unfortunately lost and Monika moved to San Francisco.
In 1988 / 89 Schäumer recorded two tracks, using the name DROP ONE, for the Acid Generation I and Generation II compilations, released on Big Sex Records, the label which later became Tresor Records. The vocals on "Work Hard" are by Olaf "OJ" Jeglitza who at that time was a member of the influential German HipHop Band THE ALLIANCE. Later, OJ came to chart fame as MC Sar & The Real McCoy.
Throughout the 90s until 2005, P1/E songs appeared on several compilations. 2005 the retrospective "Second Offender" album was released on Vinyl On Demand and became the fastest selling record in label history. 2006 Schäumer and Kimura reformed P1/E for Schäumer's 50th Birthday Bash at Silver Wings Club, Berlin.
