About Me
Every once in a while, a singer has a voice which stirs a nation - and Shelley Nelson first succeeded in doing so with her interpretation of 'Here's Where The Story Ends'.
A UK No. 7 hit for Tin Tin Out featuring Shelley Nelson in 1998, it was also the second biggest airplay hit of that year (behind only 'Angels' by Robbie Williams, and just ahead of 'Torn' by Natalie Imbruglia), and went on to receive an Ivor Novello Award for 'Best Contemporary Song', courtesy of Shelley's emotive performance. In fact, 'Story' was Shelley's second UK hit in a matter of two weeks; just prior to its release, she had reached No. 14 with pop/dance act Rest Assured, which commissioned a vocal written and recorded by Shelley on the 'Alternative "7 Mix' of 'Treat Infamy'.Later in 1998, Shelley was back in the charts again - once more with Tin Tin Out - when 'Sometimes', the follow-up to 'Story', reached No. 20 in the UK. Shelley wrote lyrics and vocal melody. These successes, added to two earlier substantial club hits - the MCA-signed 'Top Of The World' by Dudearella and Coalition's 'Lose Her Now' (another Shelley composition) from Secret Motion - led to her signing a solo deal in 1999 with Universal Music TV, to add to her publishing contract with Bryan Morrison. In July of that year, Shelley's debut solo single, 'Fall From Grace', made its mark in the charts and, subsequently, appeared on a glut of compilations which, to date, have sold well in excess of a million albums between them.Moving into 2001, Shelley was fresh with the success of 'Something In Your Eyes', a track she wrote and sang for leading UK garage artist Ed Case. A playlist favourite at Radio 1, the song hit No. 38 in the UK Top Forty, and No. 2 in the National Dance Chart in November, 2000.Again, the track was a huge compilation hit and led to Shelley co-writing and performing a number of new songs with Ed, for future dual collaborations and for his own debut album. In addition, 'Believe' - featuring a vocal recorded by Shelley for jazz saxophonist Nathan Haines' 'Sound Travels' album - was a very successful single release by Chilli Funk Records, including a massive house mix by Kenny Dope. This was followed in 2003 by a whistle-stop tour of New Zealand with Nathan and his phenomenally talented band.Guest writing, performing and collaborating with the multi-talented outfit Reel People followed (co-founded by Michael Patto Shelley's musical mentor, and all round good bloke) including a tour of Japan and the UK, performing classic tracks from their critically acclaimed album "Second Guess".Writing collaborations abound with a feast of tracks coming through regularly, Shelley is also writing with other artists in mind. Now free from her original publishing contract, Shelley's regular sessions with among others Joe Killington (MC 2ton), K Warren, Nick Carter, Phil DaCosta, and lately again Ed Case are producing some potential smashes-enough to set any would-be publisher licking their lips.A hugely in-demand PA performer, now 32, Eastender Shelley is very much a 'singer's singer' whose virtuosity and ability across any number of musical genres - from pop to jazz to garage and r 'n b, will defy categorization and bring enjoyment for a long time to come.
