About Me

Birminghams first organized PRIDE celebration, was held June 24, 1979. This "Day In the Park" has been held annually ever since, under the leadership of several different organizations. 2006 will mark the 27th PRIDE Celebration in Birmingham. Over the years, many other events have been added to the original "Day In the Park", expanding the one-day celebration to ten days of activities, seminars, and parties. In 1989, a parade was added to the annual festivities. In 2000, the parade was moved from Sunday afternoon to a Saturday night "Mardi Gras Style" parade, in the tradition of the worlds largest GLBT Celebration, Sydney, Australia's Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, and is rapidly growing in popularity.
