Interview With The Sister
Helllew love! My name is:
Sister Anja Knees
In Reverence of Vertical Rainbows,
Guardian of the Sacred Twin Pillows,
Keeper of the Special Blessing
...or Anja for short. I hail from the Emerald City, aka Seattle, Washington, USA. I am a member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and our Seattle group is known as the Abbey of Saint Joan. If you wanna see our website, check out www.theabbey.org .
To see where the sisters all began, check out the San Francisco Sisters website too!
Below you will find a brief outline of who we Sisters are and why we do what we do! If you click the title of each paragraph, it will link you to a more in-depth reason. If you wanna just skim, or ask me personally, then the short of it should do ya right. :o)
The Basics, or "Whut the Hell are yew?"
Basically, we are lgbt identified and/or lgbt-loving, fund-raising, AIDS awareness-spreading, joy-giving, guilt-ridding sex-positive nuns! We take vows and everything, so we're the real deal, just cut from a different cloth than more traditional nuns (sparklier and more flashy cloth, that is). We also differ in that we're not super religious. We are everything, be it spiritual or religious or nothing at all.
The Look, or "Why're you all gussied up like that?"
Because this is how we dress to do our good work! Speaking of, our mission statement:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"We are an Order of 21st Century nuns, dedicated to the Promulgation of Universal Joy and the Expiation of Stigmatic Guilt. We work to raise money for AIDS charities, fight for Queer rights and visibility, do safer sex outreach, and strive diligently to maintain our sense of humor, never taking ourselves so seriously that we forget to have fun. We gladly welcome All races, creeds, genders and sexual orientations."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Glamour, or "What? You're not part of the circus?"
Nope! The white face is a signature tradition of we Sisters, something that started with the SF sisters in the early days, and stuck, because it's fun, it aids in our interaction with the public, and it's different, which we like, 'cause different = awesome!
The Attire, or "How much do you charge, you whore?"
Hmm, as much as you wanna contribute! While we often times dress like call girls, we aren't selling ourselves, just our mission: To raise $$ for awareness of and the fight against AIDS. And there are as many looks to the Sisters as there are members, from the ultra-conservative nun attire to the barely there pole dancer attire!
The Theme, or "So why're ya makin' funna nuns?"
We're not. Why? Because we ARE nuns. Well, Sisters. Nuns don't interact much with the people. We're quite different than Christian Sisters or Buddhist Sisters or Sisters of other religions, but we're Sisters nonetheless, because our vows and our strength and our Mission to help humankind make us so.
The Bulge, or "But...nuns can't grow beards..."
Says who?! We Sisters are made up of mostly men, but there are a lot of female members! For reals! We don't consider ourselves drag queens, so many of us male Sisters don't dive completely into the female look as Sisters. Some of us do, but most of us wear whatever we want and choose to shave, or not shave, whatever we want, too!
The Work, or "So yer kinda purdy, but whaddaya do?"
TONS of stuff! Fund raising, event-throwing, event assistance, condom distribution at local bars and clubs, fighting for LGBT rights, spreading of love, hope, acceptance and joy, and a LOT more!
The Family, or "Well, would you welcome someone like me?"
Omigod YES! Welcome! If you feel what we call "the Calling," where you have a strong desire to be a part of our group, then by all means, DO IT. Just show up to a membership meeting that the Sisters in your area have, and go from there. You can even start your own Sister Order if you don't have one in your city and your Calling compels you to! Go here if interested.
That said...
Hey! I wrote an article on our website, all about my fave thing in the whole wide world: Blowjobs!! Well, the article is about safer sex orally, but you get the picture. ;o) Check it out if you like!
