T. Irie Dread

About Me

T. Irie Dread was founded by Frederick and Roderick Curry (the twins) back in the day in 1960. Major influences at that time were Parliament/Funkadelic and Black Uhuru. They saw these bands on a regular basis and configured both styles into their own. A rock edge was also present that was fine tuned at local venues in San Diego, beach parties, street fairs and local bars. The sustained distorted guitar effects were straight from Jimi Hendrix acid trips which were loved and accepted by the audiences. The brothers are the main song writers and their music is mostly all original songs by T. Irie Dread. Their music blends roots reggae, funk & rock to create a vibe unheard of until now.

Sounds Like: “Reggae music by T. Irie Dread set the tone, a positive and reinforcing beat that swayed people.” Dr. Ricardo Sanchez; June 26, 1988-San Antonio Express-News"For a bunch of local guys, this band makes authentic reggae. The good kind, too, not the reggae that features a frat guy with dreds and an electric guitar. Your ears are safe. " Nina Garin; Sept. 25th, 2008 - San Diego Union Tribune"Excellent, reminded me at age 14, listening to Jazzy B from UB40 reverberating his voice through the haze.” Paddy D.; November 29, 2006-United Kingdom
