Retro Soup formed in about February 2006 when Joel and Rose met at a Wolfmother gig at the Sheffield Leadmill. A couple of weeks passed on myspace, and after the statement ‘oh you have a drum kit? we should start a band’, they were formed.
Recording onto their computers, they record each of their separate bits, and then email each other the MP3’s, where they will then start to mix the tracks, edit them down and master them, before shoving them onto Myspace.
With Rose being a freelance artist and Joel a graphic designer, the albums are recorded and printed in a matter of weeks, and allows them to promote the band in any way they see fit. The debut album ‘Surrealism’ saw the soup mixing with different styles to try and find their own sound, and songs like Third Mic, Breeze and Crossed Paths are echoed in the first main individual album, ‘Glitch’.
