SOCIAL SKILLS

About Me

Social Skills has existed in various forms since the late 90s, and the songs on this page are from the last CD, which was called 'Seaside Tales'. The music is recorded and produced in a studio in Worthing, West Sussex. It can be purchased at www.beanhighway.co.uk (Paypal). The album is a south coast themed album, and will be followed by another installment of seasideness some time in 2009.Rupert Latimer, who is Social Skills, has been a musician for a long time, and makes a living in the main from writing soundtrack music and as a sound designer. Social Skills is art for arts sake. There are several other wonderful people involved with Social Skills recordings, including the incredible Pando (pandomusic.com), and downunder groovers Brydon and Miranda Stace (theratpacksback.com). Doorstopper manages the studio and looks after band security. Pete Jones does band announcements and photography.

Band Members: Social Skills is Rupert Latimer. But there are several other wonderful people involved with Social Skills recordings. Lead and backing vocals are improved hugely by the incredible Pando (pandomusic.com), and downunder groovers Brydon and Miranda Stace (theratpacksback.com). Doorstopper manages the studio and looks after band security. Pete Jones does band announcements and photography.
Influences: Where to start? Social Skills think a lot of rock music was great from the 1950s to the end of New Wave. Skillsters like Tropicalia, Blues, Jazz from the 1920s onwards, Funk, Classic Soul, 70s Country Rock, English Folk Rock, Bossa, Samba, West Coast African music from the 50s/60s/70s, old school Hip Hop, spaghetti western soundtracks (Fistful of Dynamite etc) and Satire (Zappa, The Tubes, Bonzo’s, Ween, Pando etc). The absolute favourite artists include Os Novos Baianos, JJ Cale, Little Feat, Charles Mingus, Gil Evans, Os Mutantes & Rita Lee, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, Curtis Mayfield, The Beach Boys, Thelonius Monk..........
Sounds Like: Have a listen!
