I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Welcome to the 2010 edition of the MySpace page for the one and only Brian James Johnson! At one time this was the hub of my vast online presence, but it would seem that Facebook is winning the battle, at least as far as the majority of my friends are concerned. It doesn't hurt me to keep this page in existence, but you should know that in this coming year I only plan to pop in now and then to check for messages and update my calendar. Your best bet will be to scroll down and check out the links below. And if you have a Facebook account, you can find me there and add me.
So, about me: I was born in Whittier, California, to George and Carol Johnson, on September 29, 1974. Around the age of 12, I fell in love with film-making, albeit in its most amateur form: Our brand new VHS video camera. A good old clunker. But on that camera I taught myself much that I know and use today.
In 1994 I headed to Bob Jones University and in 1998 I emerged with a Bachelor of Science in Cinema and Video Production. I promptly spent the first six years of post-college life teaching drama at Central Christian Schools in Redmond, Oregon.
In August of 2000 I married my college sweetheart ("Veronica" in my Top Friends down below}, and in January of 2005 we received a son, Arthur.
I currently operate Motion Pictures Videography, a freelance video production business. Meanwhile, I continue to write half-finished screenplays and take any opportunity I can to gain experience on film crews.
My big dream is to be a film director. When you see "Directed By Brian Johnson" on a theater poster or DVD box, you'll know I've made it, and you can elbow your friend and say, "Hey! I've been to his personal MySpace page! I wonder if he still has it up!" And then you can come here and find that, indeed, I still have it up, and you can send an e-mail, and I probably won't know you but I'll be very honored that I have a fan or two and will write back.
(And you can stop by my MySpace Film-Maker's page which, if you're into film, is probably more relevant than this all-purpose one.)

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Any of my old friends who have moved away and I haven't seen in a couple years or more, like Brian Stempien, Andrew Baxter, and Ben Kirkup.
Oh, and I want to find Barbara Kuzma. She's the one who got me into acting. Here I was, a shy little junior higher in a school full of people who generally considered me a nerd (if you can believe that), and they were having auditions for "Fiddler on the Roof" and I wouldn't have DREAMED for a moment of getting up in front of all those people who considered me a nerd and actually daring to do a singing audition, but she passed me one day in the hall and said, "You should audition for that. You'd be a good Tevye." So I did, and I got the part. And Barbara played my wife. Since then I've been in over a dozen shows in college and our community theater, so I guess a little of my success should be shared with her, wherever she is. Someone let her know, please.
And then I'd like to meet young men. I realize that today's society will probably take that the wrong way, put it in a sound bite somewhere, and attempt to ruin my career, but I mean it in all purity. As someone who was considered a nerd in junior high (but I've gotten over it), I find my heart very much inclined to help, mentor, tutor, etc., young men coming after me. I appreciate seeing a young man working hard when I shop somewhere; I appreciate seeing them act as gentlemen around adults, especially ladies; I appreciate seeing them grow into the men God would have them to be.
And then I'd like to meet just about anyone with any real connections in the film world. Redmond, Oregon, is not really the place to found a film career, but I'm trying. Through various channels, I've met Phil Hurn, an Emmy-award-winning cinematographer; and Tim Donahue, a matte painter for special effects departments. I hope to meet more.
