Once upon a time...there was a boy who was born into a world of sound and light. As he drew his first breath, that sound became music. As a child the boy was surrounded by music of all forms. The Beatles were his nursemaid, Beethoven his schoolmaster, Simon and Garfunkel his neighbors. Melodies were his bed and harmonies his pillows. At age 6 he tried eating music for breakfast— a feat that could only be matched by a neighboring composer's goats who often ate a dash of his latest opus with their morning meal. But as it turns out music is best taken with Earl Grey and lots of sugar rather than goat feed, though the goats may disagree. The boy practiced his music for hours on end, studiously avoided his academic classes, and through the guidance of his companions and elders his talents grew greater and greater. He traveled the world, found himself in strange and distant lands, and performed at venues as grand as Carnegie Hall.As often happens the boy became a man, and he realized that in addition to afternoon tea the best accompaniment to music is a friend or two. He befriended musicians of all styles— jazz, rock, Indian classical and many more. Then one day the man looked at the things he had done and the friends he had made, and he knew it was time to create music of his own. He called it Ram Dass & friend: music meant to connect the far ends of the musical spectrum; to create new and original ideas; and to perform ideas with others, allowing new friends to experience what he had always known--the magic that is music.
I'm living a dream, traveling the world, meeting wonderful people, and trying to make the world a better place one note at a time.
