Welcome to my "My Space!" My screen name is RMBR343 because 9-11 is the day that changed my life. I have always been fascinated with emergency services. I think it's because I think it's so frickin cool the way a group of firefighters and/or police officers come together and work as a team to help take care of someone's problem. It's like a symphony... everyone has their part to play.I grew up in a small town in CT where our fire department consisted soley of volunteers. I had several friends in high school that were "junior" members from the time they were 16 until they were old enough to become regular members at the age of 18. I just loved to hear their stories and listen to how excited they would get talking about helping someone. A lot of people don't understand this. They think a fascination with Emergency Services is morbid or depressing or weird. I think those are people who have never seen a fire department in action trying to save the house next door when they were a kid. They didn't see their little brother on a stretcher being cared for by grown men as if he were their own child as they put him in an ambulance because of his many croup attacks.Even though I had this fascination with emergency services I never got involved myself. I guess I was too shy and/or chicken at the time. Then the unthinkable happened. Two planes crashed into the World Trade Center and I watched as they tumbled down. As I sat in that conference room at work with a good friend of mine I almost begged him to tell me that the towers would be able to withstand the crashes and the fire. He couldn't tell me that. In fact, he told me that he thought the towers were coming down. Not even half a minute later the first tower crumbled and my heart literally broke into almost as many pieces. All I could think about was all the firefighters and police officers I knew were in those buildings trying to rescue people. I would never again be the same.Like many people I felt the need to "do something... anything." So I did what I could. I brought goodies and other stuff to my local fire station. Ultimately I became President of the Gwinnett Fire Auxiliary and through that discovered the Citizens Fire Academy. The Auxiliary folded but that's ok...I was becoming more and more involved in the Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association and now I'm the first VP. I love it! We get to stay involved with the department and help our fire fighters where we can.About my family... I am married to a great guy who I've been with since I was 16 YO and he was 17. Between finishing college, etc. we dated for 8 years before finally getting hitched. Four years after we were married we had a child. Now our household consists of a kid, two dogs and two cats. There is literally NEVER a dull moment around our household. So that's my story. Hope it didn't bore you too much!
