About Me

Music has been a part of my life since birth. Both of my parents sang in a college jazz choir when I was an infant, so I grew up always listening to good music. I became inspired to play violin when I was three. My mom finally enrolled me in violin lessons when I was five. I have been hooked since. When I was ten, I started experimenting with jazz on the violin after hearing recordings of Stephanne Grappelli and the Turtle Island String Quartet. I had the good fortune of attending the Stanford Jazz Workshop when I was twelve and got to meet and study with members of the Turtle Island String Quartet. I began full time lessons with Tracy Silverman, the groups then first violinist. In addition to the violin, I have played trombone and tuba, and am also a jazz singer. From 2004 to 2006 I was a member of Mt. San Antonio College's award winning jazz choir Singcopation. I am featured on the recordings "Drive" and "Everything Must Change." My arrangement of the tune "Caravan" is on their CD, "Better Than Anything"For the last ten years I have been composing, arranging and recording music at home. I have written for small string and vocal groups as well as jazz and wind ensembles. Most of my music has been written for pleasure, however a few of my pieces have been featured in some small independent films. It has been a long time dream of mine to compose for the big screen.Currently, I live and work in the Los Angeles area with my wife, Michelle Ortiz, an incredibly talented violinist and jazz vocalist, and my step son, Damian, a very talented pianist. Michelle and I are expecting our first baby together in August! We couldn't be more excited!
