RECORDING & MIX ENGINEER

Hi, before you read any more please read this! I'm incredibly busy at the moment. I work full time for Calrec Audio Ltd helping to make the finest and most reliable audio broadcast mixing consoles available, I'm doing a masters in Digital Signal Processing, I'm touring playing drums with the amazing band Mostly Autumn and any spare time I have is spent with my regular recording artists. I am very likely to not respond to mail from here unless you are incredibly talented and I find your music immensely special, intriguing and unique. So now you know. Sorry if I've not got back to you, I just can't deal with the large amount of messages I've been getting. Anyway thanks for reading, hope you find someone great to work with!

If you use OS X check out my widgets at http://www.henrybourne.co.uk/widgetSite . Thanks!

I am a professional Recording and Mix Engineer with over five years of real world studio experience. I am based in the York area and have good relationships with local studios, but I have also worked all over the country and will travel to work with you should that be required.

My work has helped bands to achieve recognition from record labels and get rotation on major music channels such as MTV2 , Scuzz and Kerrang!

Some audio examples of my recent work can be heard by using the player to the right For higher quality samples please visit my website at www.halfnormalledtonowhere.co.uk

I work extremely hard with my clients to take their ideas and inspirations and transform them into detailed sonic productions. Whether you need something as simple as a voiceover or a more complex album for a full band outfit, I have the dedication, experience and talent to work with you to create a professional product. I have yet to have a disappointed client.

Don't be fooled by people who speak the jargon but cannot deliver... With the costs of equipment coming down rapidly it is all too common to come across someone who on first impressions seems to have all the right gear and be right for the job, only later after a significant amount of money and time has been spent is it clear that they do not have enough experience, knowledge or talent. I often get called in to fix the messes left by these 'engineers', and money would have been better spent getting it right in the first place. Choose an engineer or producer based on their real world results. Listen to their products, speak with the bands they have worked with and make an informed decision. I might not be the right person for your job so I would never try to manipulate you into taking me on. Your money is important to you! :)

I'd really appreciate it if you would add my banner to your site! Use the code in the text area below...

My History

I was introduced to audio engineering at the age of 13 when I started to engineer for concerts at secondary school. After watching a lot of musicians perform I decided to start playing properly myself and took up the drums. I started my first band at 15 (which has now become The Bitter Image ) and have been constantly playing part time in many different groups ever since. My interest in production grew while taking Music Technology in College and so applied for a degree course in Sound Technology at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. I started work at a local studio in my year out before University and worked there every whenever possible during my student years. I left LIPA in 2006 with a first class degree and a Sennheiser Student Achievement award. Since then I have set up as a freelance engineer and have been working non-stop ever since.

My Services

Recording
I can manage your recording sessions allowing you to concentrate on the most important aspect, the performance. With experience in all major hardware and software packages I can work where you want in whatever format you want. My preferred environment is a Mac running Logic Pro 8 (Logic Studio) software for mix (which I find provides the most flexible and efficient experience) or Pro Tools 7 for tracking.

Mixing
Maybe you have made a recording but don't have the facilities or the ears to turn it into a polished mix, or you have a mix created by someone that doesn't exactly convey your original intentions. I can mix or remix your tracks to achieve exactly the results you require. Get in touch to discuss.

Mastering
If your mix lacking that professional polish, the tonality of the overall sound is wrong, it is quieter than you had imagined or the levels of each song on an album are varied, chances are it hasn't been mastered. Or if it has, then it has been done badly... Seen as quite a 'black art' in some circles, Mastering is an important part of the recording process and I can help you give your work that extra something.

Production
When many bands go into a recording studio the engineer hits record and the band play. When the band are happy (and sometimes even when they are not) the engineer will create a mix and say job done. This is not how recordings should be made. The job of the producer is to organise the musicians and the recording sessions, ensure that the recording is made to the best of the performers ability and that it is tailored to suit the intended market ensuring greater success. This may involve arranging songs, changing instrumentation, altering performance, carefully choosing different equipment... The list is almost endless. I will get as involved as you like in the process and can hold back to give you more artistic control if you do not require this service.

Please get in touch with me if you are interested in working with me or just to have a chat. I'd love to hear from you! Thanks for reading :)
