"consisting of just a bass, drums and vocals, barbara make some pretty nasty grind/doom. raging crust gives away to jazz sidelines and back again, the less than tight playing adding a certain charm to the chaos. somewhere between lightning bolt and eyehatgod is where you will find this duo. and that's no bad spot to ply your hideous noise from."
Terrorizer
"I'll conclude this month--s round up with some more Israeli bone-rattling sludge-trudge courtesy of bass--n--drums duo Barbara, whose cathartic yawp unites the satanic fire-starting of Filippino black metal with the grudgeful cunted No Wave of prime time Liquorball via Crass-- despairing --Anti-Mother--. Sequenced as though it had been played in one single and desperate medley, Barbara--s spectacular album PEGER is released on the Tel Aviv label Heart & Crossbone (HCBrecords.com), and is a must for those in search of sheer end-of-the-year nothinglessness. Magnificent."

bARBARA is the barbaric drums and bass guitar duo of David opp & Re-em H. The two have been playing together since 1987, starting off as members of the Israeli post-punk act Shalosh Hait (with electronic sound-artist, Ran Slavin, back then on vocals and guitar). Their self-titled vinyl LP was released in 1991.
After Shalosh Hait broke up, David & Re-em moved to New York and formed 1249, pushing more towards kranky indie-rock. their debut album, titled "TV Dog" came out in 1994.
Their growing interest in aggressive sounds and extreme aesthetics pushed them to form bARBARA in 1995. After two demos that drew some underground attention, bARBARA self-released the "Ashtray Full fridge Empty" E.P. in September 1997. The four tracks on the CD are a vicious discharge layered with dark melody and frenzied fills, jump-cutting from bottomless gloom to the ecstasy of pure, uplifting despair. [SOLD OUT].
Re-em had to leave New York in 1998, yet bARBARA managed to find the time to record "Do No Evil Upon This Earth", a limited edition CD-R.
The following year they joined forces again for a few gigs and recorded "A Blessing from the Angel of Death", as it was captured live at the Dinamo Dvash club in Tel-Aviv. You should check www.aquariusrecords.org for an accurate, thrilling review of this album.
David went back to the US while Re-em left to India for 2 years.
In 2002 bARBARA regrouped and started working on new material. Since then, bARBARA has been gigging and playing with such acts as Pungent Stench, Rabies Caste and Labrat, among others, and getting involved in other projects (Lietterschpich, Cadaver Eyes, Mildew].
