About Me

Bands For Fans - Music For The 21st Century
Encouraging artists to find resources and services to keep them doing what they do best, play music.
You are invited to
Bands For Fans
6:30 p.m. June 28, 2007
at the Vera Project
FREE if you arrive for the politics panel discussion
FREE if you have a CD of your own music for the Comunity Listening Party
$5 if you arrive for the live music. The live performances will be Red Heffer, The Midway Orchestra and a Spontaneous Collaboration.
This music community oriented event is aimed at discovering unmatched resources within our area that can be combined to fuel successful musical collaborations. It is targeted towards recording artists, music fans, visual artists, performance artists, producers, promoters, engineers, studio owners, activists, graphic artists, web designers, web developers, programmers, indy labels, podcasters, filmmakers, politicians, etc…
The idea is to introduce people that are interested in helping each other to create a complete package for recording, marketing, touring and sustainable business management.
The event begins with a panel discussion about the importance of political participation from our music community. Featured panelists are
Deborah Semer (Atmosphere Artist Management & Consulting)
Steve Mack (President of the Seattle Chapter of National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences)
Tom Mara ( Executive Directer of KEXP)
Tim Hatley (Seattle Nightlife and Music Assn.)
This discussion will be followed by a Community Listening Party.
Any band, act or group of any style or genre of music is invited to submit a recording or collection of any quality for play during the night. This music is put on a playlist and provides the background for discussion that takes place amongst the attendees after the panel. This part of Band For Fans is meant to bring forward acts that are interested in being heard without discrimination or criticism. It is a randomly built soundtrack assembled as bands arrive with their CD's. It highlights the diversity of the music communities within our area. This community listening party provides a framework for conversation, CD trading, and business development. It's a good time to hand out business cards, press packages and demos. The night closes with live performances by Red Heffer, the Midway .Orchestra, and a spontaneous collaboration. Please pass this along to any band or person interested in meeting or working with music artists.
Thank you,

UPDATE - Bands For Fans encourages bands to support each other by being fans of each other, sharing resources such as fans, information, relationships and contacts and creating an environment of artistic collaboration.
We encourage the independent DIY community to find tools to distribute and sell their music in a way that can generate an income for the band members and pay for the services that are required to record, distribute and promote themselves.
Bands For Fans also promotes the importance of community development. We encourage the interaction of artists and service providers that support the music community. At a Bands For Fans event you will also find graphic artists, web designers, software developers, hustlers, photographers, promoters, artist management, booking agents, swindlers, recording engineers, studio owners, lawyers, con artists, writers and a surprising number of other people bringing creative and innovative ideas forward into the new music economy of the 21st century.
