As the summer wanes and the autumn beckons, comes a hint of spring with the emergence of an important new artist.
Samantha Collard - singer, songwriter and composer - has been described as a jazzy Portishead or a nouveau Feist. An inspired and gifted artist, Samantha’s future is as bright as her talent.
Born in Sudbury, Samantha always knew her destiny. The fortitude that started her on her musical journey is unmistakable in the clarity and truth of the songs she now writes, sings and performs.
The lyrical beauty and intimacy of songs like Beautiful and Strange and the immediately recognizable hooks on songs like Other Side and Ubercool are proof she is ahead of her time and well on her way to become the music industry ‘It girl’ of 2008.
Honing her skills as a songwriter, Samantha has worked with industry heavyweights such as Danny Leblanc (Pirate Radio & Television), Chad Irshick (Inception Sound), Tony Rabalo (Joy Drop), Malik Worthy (Black Corner Records), Peter Prilesnik (Big Sugar, Sarah Harmer, Sarah Slean).
She returned to the studio in June to write and record with Ron Lopata (Jacksoul, Simon Wilcox, Year of the Monkey), who just produced 2007 Juno award winning Best New Artist of the year, Tomi Swick.
The slender and striking artist, who once had Broadway ambitions, has channeled her love of theatre, dance and music, into a powerful and emotionally-charged live performance.
Preferring to dabble in the moodier side of music, Samantha’s themes and ideas touch on the darker side of love. She seamlessly juxtaposes her sunny personality with a vibrant and confident edge.
From the first note to the lick of the last song, Samantha is luminous and a musical experience that is as poignant as it is affecting. The presence of her performance and the imagery in her words linger long after the artist has left the stage.
