A 20-minute sketch by Patricia. A portraiture modeling stint.

"In this world everything can change just like that."
Trauma is the third-leading cause of death in the United States, taking 160,000 lives in 2004, more than any other cause except heart disease and cancer. Because it primarily affects the young, trauma leads all diseases in terms of life-years lost.
The University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital Emergency Room, the Regional Trauma Center, Level II Adult & Pediatric, for a 10-county area, and the only trauma center in Travis County. Every patient receives treatment, regardless of his or her ability to pay. I have been volunteering here since September 2005. I am occasionally called upon to train/orient new volunteers.

Some important facts:

  • More than 10 million Americans are currently living with, through or beyond cancer.
  • More than 1.3 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer this year.
  • Of adults diagnosed with cancer today, 64% will be alive five years from now.
  • One in three people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime.
  • Three in four families will care for a family member with cancer.
  • 1,500 people will die today from cancer, 1/3 of those could live just with better access to existing care.

Equipped with a 6.0L, twin-turbocharged W12 engine, the car produces 552 hp (412 kW), with a top speed of 195 mph (314 km/h). The car is designed by Dirk van Braeckel.
A W12 engine is a 12-cylinder piston engine in a W configuration. W12 engines are manufactured in two distinct configurations. One configuration uses four banks of three cylinders (two narrow-angle V6 engine blocks), coupled to a common crankshaft (e.g., VW W12). The other uses three banks of four cylinders coupled to a common crankshaft, and this configuration has 3 separate 4 cylinder banks each at 60 degrees offset from one another (e.g., Napier Lion, see photo below) .
