Haven't you heard yet? ProteJ is coming back through with a new album! Though not yet a giant in the hip-hop community, he has made his mark on his hometown and the outlying area's underground hip-hop scene. A passionate performer, ProteJ grabs the mic with a hunger to be heard. A ProteJ performance will prove his dedication to music; his focus, poise, and flawless flow reflect the hours spent crafting his sound and image. In 2009, he played shows at The Rock Quarry, Mel's Tavern, PJ's Pub (which has now since been closed down--it couldn't handle the power!), several private parties, and the Sunset Revival--a fundraiser for Kansas State University's fraternity houses. He had a live interview on the Urban Wildcat 91.9, complete with a Capella freestyle. And, yeah, that was ProteJ on that radio promo for the 91.9 urban shows that they played all last summer. Now it's a new year, with new ProteJ on the horizon.
Like any enterprising musician, ProteJ has had his hands in other projects as well. In 2008, he made an appearance on a SWAT (Southwest All-Star Team) mix-tape titled The Lost State. He also appeared in two tracks on The Eclipse Tribute CD produced by Bowgaurd Entertainment. Currently, he is co-producing southwestern artist Mic Marvel's upcoming album Freedom In Death; My Escape From Here. This same Mic Marvel brings a track to Nothing Normal Here, so watch out for that collaboration. Newly acquainted with local band Strange Unit, ProteJ will be featured in a track on their upcoming album, still in the infant stages of production. Both Mr. Gravy and DJ Emix from Strange Unit were involved with Nothing Normal Here; Gravy guest stars on two tracks, and Emix recorded several of ProteJ's vocal tracks.
Nothing Normal Here will be ProteJ's first release since his 2008 debut, The Hybrid Project. Engineered by Mr. Chazs of Bowgaurd Entertainment, Nothing Normal Here is ProteJ's sophomore foray into the hip-hop landscape. Expect a wide range of atmosphere on this album, from brooding, introspective deep thought flows, to break your coffee table and let's party hip-hop anthems. As the title seems to suggest, there's nothing normal about this artist's ability to articulate his thoughts. If you're looking for forgettable, run-of-the-mill rhymes, you're in the wrong part of Kansas. ProteJ gets sub-dermal on this album. Nothing Normal Here has all the intensity of his first album, but shows a more focused and introspective artist, back, but never really gone. Then, after he unloads on your emotions, he brings it back with a beat so sick you'll think he's got the flu. You'll drop whatever you were doing immediately and get out on the dance floor. It's true, ProteJ says so!
