"From blues to reggae to flamenco, to Indonesia to the Galapagos to Hungary, to many places in-between, I've touched on a lot of ground but there is still much to see and learn."
About myself...I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, into a musical family spawned by my father's mother, a graduate of the Julliard School of Music in New York City. Music was always around at home and once I turned five years old, formal introduction to the art began through piano lessons with my grandmother. The lessons continued until I was fourteen when a new spark was found after being introduced to the acoustic guitar. I stopped with the contemporary and classical style piano lessons, and took quickly to the guitar. Blues and classic rock began to consume me.Then university came and I moved away to study electrical engineering for a better understanding of music at the electrical level. While doing so, I played around town in a few blues, rock, and reggae groups ("Sound Check", "Dylan Murray", "Verbal Warning"). Then I got my degree, moved my stuff back home and set off, guitar-in-hand, to travel and work abroad. After a year-and-a-half, I returned having cruised halfway around the globe as a crew member on yachts. I invested my savings in more musical instruments and music production equipment, and then with a developing focus on flamenco guitar, some jazz piano lessons, and plenty of experiences to draw from, I began bringing to life my music project dubbed: "Abstract Echoes".Another year-and-a-half passed, my project and style had found some form and it was time to move on. Upon the completion of some work in Indonesia, I left to travel solo around Asia for a few months with my guitar and backpack. Then I travelled to a few Latin cities for a few more months.Returning home again, this time for half-a-year, I got back into playing regular shows and a few with some other groups ("Zumbi" - afro-brazilian funk, and "Vince Andrushko" -blues/country). Towards the end of the summer, I recorded my solo acoustic album "A Ridiculous Dreamer" and then moved to Hungary where I continued to hone the craft for another six months, focusing on rhumba flamenca, bossa nova and guitar-tapping-percussion techniques. Now I am continuing my musical pursuits while basing myself in Vancouver, B.C.. A new multi-instrument album is also in the works on which I play and arrange all of the instruments. It is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2008.For booking or more information, you can reach me at:thomas(at)abstractechoes(dot)com
