Troy Anthony Johnson Jr. was born September 24th 1987 in Pittsburgh. He is the son of Debra DeLaney and Troy Johnson Sr. For most of his life, he resided with his mother Debra. It has been a long road for Troy, so lets start you at the beginning.
Troy Johnson lived with his Mother for most of his childhood. He resided in Hawkins Village Projects. His mother moved from house to house alot, so Troy never got to have a solid foundation in a school, or with friends. He relocated From Hawkins Village, To North Braddock over the course of 7 years. Therefore, he was friends with people from Braddock, and Rankin. This would prove to be vital in the upcoming years.
The year was 1995. Troy Johnson was in 5th grade. Troy was always trying to make the next dollar so he, along with his best friend Rizzo began to sell candy throughout Dickson Middle School. He and Rizzo would make up to 15 dollars a day. During this time, Troy and his cousin Tyrell Morrison formed a small group rap group known as the "Fresh Boyz". They would rap at lunch time while everyone listened to the two recite their Middle school raps. After about month, They became known around the middle school as "Rappers". During Troys 5th grade year, he and tyrell began to rap daily at the lunch table, Performing songs that were going to be on their Cassette Tape. The Two began to record songs and sell them for 1 dollar. The songs were recorded over already used beats that every student knew. The most famous song that The Fresh Boyz was a song known as "Kaboom" which was recorded over the instrumental of Will Smith's "Men in Black" song. The Fresh Boyz began to make a little bit of noise throughout the school year. Towards the end of the school, complications arose and the Tandom had to break up the group. Troy wanted to still rap so he became a solo rapper. Tyrell stopped rapping.
We Fast Forward to the year 2001. 8th grade school year. Troy began to get the fire back for rapping. He moved back to Hawkins Village where he joined a group known as PPU (Pimp Player Union). This was a seemingly larger group of young rappers from Hawkins Village. Troy began to be known as "Young T". Other young rappers in the group were; Squirmy, T money, Winnie, Ceezalino, Y dale, and Phantom who was actually Tyrell, Troys ex-partner in the rap game. While PPU was making themselves known in Rankin, there was another group of young rappers in Braddock known as "Kizzy Hill". Rankin and Braddock were right next to each other, and students attended the same school. There was a battle for the school. Which group was better? PPU, or Kizzy Hill? This was when Troy was involved in his first battle. Troy made it a tough battle, but his opponent proved to me more lyrical and better prepared for the battle. Troy lost his first battle. After he lost his first battle, The family was about to move to Swissvale and he thought that it would be better if He had stopped rapping after the battle. So he left the group and stopped rapping.
Troy Did not Stay in Swissvale long. He stayed in Swissvale from about April, to June of 2001. While he was in Swissvale, He rekindled the friendship with Devon Keyes, also known as Rizzo. Troy and Rizzo, along with Andrew Mulcrow formed yet another rap group. This group did not have a name. They just had their respected alias's (Young T, Rizzo, and A plus). Troy and Andrew were the main rappers. Rizzo was more like the person who did all of the adlibs after the bars that were spit by Troy and Andrew. No mixtapes were dropped within the group, but Troy was involved in many battles in that three month period of living in Swissvale. Troy began to win battle after battle, his reputation growing with every win. Troy was moving out of Swissvale to Jeannette, when he got challenged for one last time. His Opponent would be a guy by the name of "Navigator". Troy had two days to write 2 battle raps about Navigator, and then deliver his raps in a battle for best in Swissvale in his age class. The battle became crucial and lyrical blows were thrown throughout the whole battle. In the end, the spectators gave the victory to Troy as he won his all of his battles after losing years ago to Kizzy Hill's "Taz". Troy would be known as the best in Swissvale.
The summer of 2001, Troy Moved to Jeannette Pennsylvania. Most of the kids in Jeannette were rapping. Many of them thinking that they could be the next Lil Bow wow or Lil Romeo. The competition was great in Jeannette. during the summer Troy along with his new friends formed a group known as A.B.H. (All Bout Hoes) The group consisted of many young rappers. There was a controversy of who was the best rapper among the people in the group. So a bracket was made. There would be a series of battles. Some battles were recorded on Cassette Tapes, other battles would take place in the streets at the basketball court of West Jeannette. Troy would change his name to "Chief" Troy was in 3 battles. The opponents were Rob James, Sumo, and Mickey. All of Troys battles were recorded and distributed to people that he would see walking around Jeannette. He won those battles unanimously, proving that there was no competition in he age class, But there was a senior of Jeannette High School known as "Cj" that heard about Troy success in rap battles, so he decided to challenge Troy at a Party. Troy accepted the challenge but did not know what he was getting himself into. The battle did not last long at all. Everytime Troy tried to rap, he would get interrupted by CJ and he would keep rapping. The crowd loved it. Saying "ohh" and laughing at Troy for the punchlines that were spit by CJ. Troy lost for the first time in about 6 months. He kept rapping tho. He took the loss as a learning experience and began to write and prepare himself better. ABH still rapped, but Troy was the Anchor.
2002-2003 would prove to be a memorable year for Troy. He transferred to a school in Monessen called AGAPE day treatment. Troy transferred to AGAPE day treatment because of attendance problems his freshman year of high school, so he had to go to another school throughout his entire 10th grade year. While he was in AGAPE, he met with many other rappers from differents parts of western Pennsylvania. He listened to many of the different styles and lyrics of each rapper. Towards the end of the school year, the eight rappers decided to hold a rap battle to see who the best was in the school. The principal approved of this idea, and there were three teachers that were judges. The Freestyle battles had to be without cursing, like the battles that took place on 106 & Park. The first took place the last two periods of class. The finals were between Troy (Chief) and DeLaney (D lane). In the end, Troy won the battle and was named the best rapper in the school. Once school was out and the summer came around, Troy had matured and had elevated his vocabulary and lyrics to a height that would take Jeannette by Storm. He listened to many rappers and their styles, and he took pieces of each of the rappers styles and created his own. Troy comtemplated and decided that he would not rap at parties or anything until he had enough material to make a mixtape. His junior year of high school back at Jeannette, he did not rap. He just wrote until he was ready to create his first mixtape.
Troys Senior year of high school was memorable as well. Troy finally had enough material to create a mixtape. He would name it, Abh Presents Chief: Bangout vol. 1. He bought software for his computer where he could record songs and export the recordings to a CD. He let the school that he would be dropping a mixtape, and the school was ready. Before the Mixtape dropped there was a stir up in Jeannette about who was a better rapper, Troy (Chief) or Jurelle (Cannon). so the two decided to battle it out to see who was the best lyricist of jeannette. Troy then made a song called "Jurelle Powell Diss". he put in on the mixtape and Put the song on Myspace. he told people on AOL instant messenger about his song about Jurelle, and once they listened to it, the word spread so fast about the track, people were calling him an hour after he had the song on myspace. They were calling to reserve copies of the CD. He burned 50 copies on his computer and went to school the following week and sold all 50 cds in the first two periods of class. The next day, he burned 50 more copies of the cd and went to school and sold out once again in school. Troy figured that everyone in his school was supporting him so then he went to the mall and began to sell his CD. People were buying his CD left and right to Troy's surprise. The final numbers for Troy's first CD was over 159 copies. Troy then began to make another CD. he planned to drop it before he went to college. He wanted to name it Bangout vol. 2- Eye of the tiger. The streets were asking him when it was going to drop. Troy knew that the streets were going to expect some hot tracks, so he had to take his time to produce some fire. Before he dropped the mix tape, he let everyone know on myspace that he would be at Westmoreland Mall to sell the CDs. Before he even went to the mall, his phone was ringing off the hook. People were calling and asking him where he was at because they were at the mall waiting for him. The first day of his mix tape dropping, he sold 91 copies of the CD. By the time he finished selling the second mixtape, the numbers were more than anything that Troy would fathom. he sold 315 CDs of his second mixtape. Now that Troys name is known in the streets of Westmoreland County, It is time for him to get his name known in Pittsburgh and the Surrounding areas. He is ready. He is ready to Take Pittsburgh and Hip Hop by storm.
