Ryan Alex Farmery

Since graduating from the University of Salford in 2003 with a BA(HONS) in popular music and recording, Ryan has been working as a freelance composer for the media. Ryan also works as a professional guitarist and pianist with over 20 years experience in performing.
"My passion for music began at a very early age, I think I was about 6 when I first started to play the organ - my parents remember me copying tunes from the television and decided to take it further...."
At university, Ryan studied guitar in more depth and concentrated most of his efforts into composition and music production. Writing music for short films at university was a fantastic way for Ryan to improve his stylistic awareness: "When a director asks for a certain style or mood, then you're expected to deliver the goods so it's important to have an excellent overall musical knowledge and the ability to take a brief and realise it in a short amount of time...."
To date, Ryan has composed music for numerous projects including a feature film, short films, animations, documentaries and corporate videos. More recently, he has been commissioned to write title music for The New Friday Show, has worked on a JJB advert and has developed links with a producer from Channel4.
"All of the projects present their own challenges and involve writing and producing music convincingly in many different styles, from orchestral music to drum n bass - from rock/funk through to soundscapes - from commercial pop right through to world music. Anything...."
Ryan currently teaches guitar and keyboards and performs in several function bands.
Ryan is currently a writer member of the Performing Right Society - PRS
