We think we have external enemies but this isnt true. Our real enemy is our mind of anger. Anger creates external enemies by exaggerating on what we do not like about them. With patience we can become friends with our enemies. If they were real enemies then everyone would feel that way about them and we couldnt change that. However 'enemy' is mere imputation of our mind. If someone is harmful to us physically or verbally it is because the are overcome with anger. Seeing this we should develop a wish to be free from such a harmful mind. Instead of trying to destroy those who seem to be our enemies which is physically impossible since we are one and those who cause harm are countless. Simply by overcoming anger with patience we will destroy our real enemy. Its impossible to cover the earth in leather but simply by putting leather on ones foot has the same effect. If all beings were to become our enemy they could only kill us in this life. They couldnt physically take us to the hell realms. Anger can take us to the hell realms. Anger has harmed us in the past, it harms us now, and if not overcome with patience it will harm us in countless future lives.
