Turtle Soup

About Me

Turtle Soup started when old friends Steve and Fran bumped into each other in an Essex folk club. After revamping some old songs, Steve badgered Fran into writing some stuff of their own. The resulting material included songs started during Frans Theatre degree and entirely new ideas. Six months later, Turtle Soup took part in the final of the New Roots competition in St Albans, a showcase for folk and acoustic newcomers. Festival performances and regular gigs led to an album deal with DJC Records."...the dominant sound is Fran's amazing voice, which manages to embody that straight-ahead 'go for it!' quality that you used to tend to find in singers of the 60s era - i.e. attractively cutting and forthright, with a deliberate control of vibrato that speaks of a decisive strength in interpretation more important than trained technique. Steve's accompaniment, though in simple terms best described as mainly no-frills strummed guitarwork, is actually much more than that, for it's both able and tender and strongly characterised." - fROOTS magazine, May 2006
