The K is a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., but resides in California now. He left for California with hopes to find someone who would have the belief that his talent was good enough to take him to hip hop stardom.He soon found that in a former Boxing Manager who had just come home to Richmond, Ca. from doing business with Don King. The former Manager, known to many as De Lawrence 'Dee' Miller who is also a fledging record producer (through his independent labels, Rap/Fight Records & MiLL Inc. Promotions) immediately took a liking to Kathariah (now known as 'The K').From then on, Miller began to take The K into several different studios and began recording the rapper who at the time had never recorded in a studio before. "He needed the experience of recording in a studio environment. Previously he had recorded his songs onto a mini recorder. Even though the recordings were very low quality, I could tell he had the potential to make it. So I began to take him into the studio with other rappers and producers I knew, like The Mob Figaz, Dubb20 & Ghetto Starz, Roblo, Maki, Pablo Picaso, Luiville Slugga and others," says Miller.Now, over the past few years, The K has been aquainted with more producers, but has been limited to the rappers he's been able to work with. "I found it difficult to find other top quality rappers who wanted to work with The K. I believe that because he is originally from the East Coast, alot of these Bay Area rappers are still caught up in this East Coast/West Coast rivalry that the media outlets still promote."Nevertheless, The K definately held his own in recording over 50 songs without any features. Blessed with a gift for writing all genres of music, singles such as 'So Pimpin', 'Wild', 'Grupie Eyez' and 'Like Me' began getting lots of internet notoriety. "Man, out of nowhere I started getting hit up by people from different parts of the world that were digging tracks that we had originally planned to come off the bench with. 'Like Me', which was the album title to a promotional cd that was pressed up, began getting mad response from Germany of all places. Overseas has also been liking 'So Pimpin' as well as a few others. Different Dj's from a variety of states would request that we send them 'Wild', '2Much' and 'Cali Girls' (which was only supposed to be a promotional track exclusively for the ladies of California, but states like New York, Florida and Massachussetts were responding positively to it)."The newest recordings show the maturity rise in this newest sensation to hip hop. Tracks like 'Nah Go Run', which is moreless a regaee tune, 'Amore Por Vido', a track that young African American Males who are in relationships with Latina women will relate to, because it expresses ones love no matter what her parents say or feel about him will definately be ear openers. He's even written and recorded a song for the United States Troops called 'Come Home' which will humble the hardest man. Definately can't forget 'Never Alone', feat. Jacki is a track in which the title says it all.Currently, he and Miller are seeking a deal with a Major Label.
