2Blue was born in Agartala, the capital city of Tripura on April 24, 1975. His parents christened him Tirthankar Poddar, evidently oblivious of the rock n’ roll life he was destined for. Having acquired an alpha numeric moniker while in school, li’l Tirthankar pushed his way to becoming one of the most powerful voices in Indian rock. Always a man for his heroes, he attributes his vocal prowess to his childhood heroes — David Coverdale, Joe Lynn Turner, Ian Gillan, Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickinson, Joey Tempest, and more recently Jeff Scott Soto and Jorn Lande.
2Blue forayed into the Mumbai rock circuit in 2002 when he joined the now-defunct neo-classical outfit Hidden Fifth. Having gained notoriety for his powerful high-pitched singing and on-stage charisma, he was soon invited to sing for VAYU in early 2003. With VAYU, 2Blue traveled extensively, playing to thousands of fans all over the country. After 5 years in VAYU, he formed his own hard rock band Zedde in mid-2008 to focus on music that is his own.
Today, as the awe-inspiring frontman of Zedde, 2Blue is undoubtedly Mumbai’s best shot at bringing the old school charm back to hard rock singing. If his growing popularity in metropolitan India is any indication, the future is nothing short of white-hot for this self-taught crooner. In the words of his fans, “His performances defy reason!”
A perfect case of ‘My Jeckyl will not Hyde’, this BE / MBA is a corporate man by day and a hair-whipping / amplifier-shattering voicebox by night. Essentially a simpleton with wild emotive dreams, 2Blue remains loyal to his roots. His life bubbles around his lady love, his parents, and the Almighty. A messenger for peace and solidarity, this rare breed human finds solace in the brotherhood of his band members and the small miracles of life.
