David and Joseph met by chance at a Paris nightclub in late 1997. Both had already established musical pedigrees before meeting: Dahan as a DJ (like his father, Alain Dahan) and budding producer; Guigui as part of French Afro-Funk ensemble Malka Family, who released 4 albums in their 9-year tenure (1988-1997). Dahans music was in the house/electronic vein, while Guigui and Malka Family incorporated traditional African music with futuristic, digital raga. Recognizing their immediate synergy, the duo enthusiastically embarked on an ambitious musical journey that would merge their seemingly disparate musical backgrounds into a unique and fluid sonic vision.Taking their name from an airport announcement (Mr. Klment Juliennes presence is requested at the information office) heard on an obscure sound effects record found amongst Alain Dahans DJ sides, the moniker serves as a tribute to this collection of classic European disco vinyl that inspired so much of their music. By years end, the newly-christened Klment Julienne would release their debut recording - the 4-track Bass Corniche EP. This first release was an eclectic endeavor that combined elements of downtempo chillout grooves, house and electro. However, it would be 1998s impressive Deuce 12 single (a sophisticated platter of French jazzy house with a bouncy, filtered-disco edge that also featured a Kojak remix a remarkable b-side, Possoz Boogie) that would pronounce their diverse sound and gain interest from some of Frances more discerning house DJs.On their long-awaited debut, Panamerican, David Dahan and Joseph Guigui have reemerged with a refined sound that successfully encapsulates their musical mission. A one-hour vacation from a world too serious, the album pays tribute to the multifarious worlds of jazz and electronic music melding filmic Sixties jazz-pop, bossa nova, easy listening loungecore, samba, calypso, blues, electronic downbeats and a hint of exotica into a gently simmering musical gumbo.Embankment of Londons River Thames like pearls on a string; a balmy night in New Orleans French Quarter; New York Citys bustling metropolis; maracas in Caracas; the gaudy-yet-sensual neon panorama of the Las Vegas nightscape; the elegant sophistication of the Cte dAzur.
