About Me

I was born in Athens and named Alegre Sarfaty from parents of Italian, Greek and Turkish origin. I Moved to Brazil when I was seven years old. When aged 25 I started creating my first art works signed as Gretta Sarfaty Grzywacz. To further my art studies I then lived and worked in Paris, Milan and New York. Changing my name to Greta Sarfaty Marchant when I married in 1995, now living and working in London as a British citizen, signing my work as Gretta. In 2002 to inaugurate the opening of 'Sartorial Contemporary Art' I exhibited 'The Myth of Womanhood' and 'Youth Versus Gravity', wall paper installation and video-DVD, this show was also exhibited in Soho, New York.Sartorial is a project-led space. The aim of the gallery is to present the work by both upcoming and established artists/curators and to promote the exchange of current ideas and practices.Sartorial Contemporary Art is a very active gallery showing and promoting young up-and-coming British artists. Exhibitions are held every 1 to 2 months and have been reviewed extensively in the London newspapers such as: 'The Daily Telegraph', 'The Guardian','The Independent', 'The Arts Newspaper' and in periodicals such as: 'Time Out Magazine', 'House & Garden' and 'Modern Painters'
