Pistols and Poets

About Me

Pistols and Poets were losely formed in late 2004 when Jim phoned up his already good friends Finn and Geordan and said 'hey lets start a band' (in the campest voice possible). So they did.
This was cool for a while, we could say we were in a band and not have to do anything. But then we thought we might have a bit more fun and actually play something. So to do this we started looking for a drummer. We looked and looked but had no luck, then one day one of our friends came to us and said that we had to check out this kid called Ed, 'hes amazin'. So we did and we were thoroughly satisfied.
So there we had it, Finn, Jim, Geordan and Ed. Still didnt have a name though. So we pondered and eventually came up with gangsters and poets, but that was taken so we comprimised and went with Pistols and Poets, which actually sounds alot better come to think of it so we stuck with it. We then got a myspace.
Most recently our vocalist Finn left the band, so for now, our bassist Geordan is our vocalist! We've all been good friends for years and wish Finn the best of luck with his own project Finn Can't Dream! Anyway please tell your friends about us and come see some of our gigs, all welcome

Pistols and Poets review, 31st July 07.

''Tuesday evening. And with not much on in London besides 24 hours of Big Brother, I venture into Shoreditch to see what's on. And I find Pistols And

Walking past the glorious Catch Bar (22 Kingsland road) Night; Kiss The Dirt, is about to kick off. Walking up the stairs into the up-stairs section of catch is always touch and go as you never know what to expect, but this was good. You are greeted by a youngish band of four catching a quick sound-check before beginning there set. They are, of course, Pistols And Poets.

Pistols And Poets are Finn Shannon providing Lead Vocals, Geordan Reid - Campbell thumping out the bass, Jim Johnstone on Guitar and Ed Bernez hitting the drums. Having played together for a while (2yrs) it has taken them a while to get into regular gigs, but this is well-used time.

Back to the gig. The band take to the stage and start up there set. There sound is quite a mixture; from the usual clean guitar riffs you'd expect from an up-and-coming indie band, they mix in edgy rock drum sequences with aggressive bass breaks. There is no lack of talent from the band, who's well rehearsed music gives them the head-start on bands twice there age, and from the charming song lyrics to the improvised fill (swapping guitars half-way through), they are a delight to watch.

'Down and Out' seems to be the bands strongest song, but melodic 'Last Chorus' played to finish the set, leaves the audience wanting more. 'Last Chorus' is all your favourite bits of Bloc Party and Blood Red Shoes mixed into one, and with lead singer Finn's cheeky look's to the crowd and the satisfied looks on the others face, it is a shame they have finished.

All in all, the band is worth seeing. Much like The Maccabees, this is a band you have to see live to fully appreciate. Their online tracks don't give credit to the bands ability to make you want to join their band right there and then.

Add them. See them. www.myspace.com/pistolsandpoets''
