It's Times Like These You Learn to Live Again

About Me

Think of me anyway you want, I can be the problem if that's easier. In your head, move the pieces around. All the things I've said, turn the memory upside down. -Ben Folds
People have told me that I am a hard person to know, and I take it as a compliment. But if I were told the opposite, that I was easy to read and predictable, then nothing really makes me standout. That's not a cry for attention, that's individuality- nonconformity.
There would also be a group that would tell you I am stubborn. I guess being stubborn can be a cause of being the same hard guy to know. I pick and chose who I want to be open with, but those folks can be counted on one hand.
It ain't your TV, though it's nice to laugh at people sometimes. It ain't your computer, though it's nice to spend a whole night online. It's not your movies, I've seen the same damn storyline. It's only music now, it's only music now. -John Mayer
What a lot of folks fail to realize is that I do most communication through song selection and play lists. How a song sounds is important, but lyrics are the more vital component. Music helps me relax-meditate during the early hours of the morning, and make me feel less alone when I can relate to what is being said.
I don't smoke because I'm an asthmatic, I don't drink because I don't need it, and I don't do drugs because I'd rather get high off of other things because stooping that low.

My Interests

I'm a hard person to keep track of. But, the basics to know:
I'm 18, a senior at Normal West HS, although I will be a Journalism major at Southern Illinois University (Carbondale) in the Fall of 2007.
..

I'm not very athletic. I play a mean game of Ultimate Frisbee, but that's about it. I'm a big Cubs fan, always have been and always will be. I've also been known to put on a Bears jersey every now and again as well. What can you say, Chicago does it right!
Instead of sports, I'm pretty involved with newspaper, etc. I write and am one of the editors for NCWHS's paper and I have a blog the The Pantagraph [Bloomington-Normal, IL]. I had a weekly sports column in Carlock for a good while, but gave it up to write the blog.
My real job is at Barnes & Noble in Bloomington. I work up at the cash registers, so it is hard to not see me if you ever come by. (That is if I'm not trying to squeeze into the garbage can space underneath the counter.)
Outside of school and work, I play bass guitar. I'm not really good enough to present myself with real bragging rights, but it is still fun. No bands at the moment, but maybe that'll change someday. In the meantime, I'd really like to learn how to play harmonica.
I'll be the first to admit that I am a nerd. Not the kind that has his head buried in a PC World Magazine, but I could get your comp to work properly. I run the Audio/Visual equipment in the balcony at Wesley UMC on Sundays, which is nice because it makes me feel important in my own little way.
I'm a hopeless romantic, so don't even go there. A lot of people would not consider me to be normal in this department. But, my parents raised me believing that love is the most important thing. Not much has changed :)

I'd like to meet:

Music:

Each of these pictures is a link to some kind of video that the artist is in.
Weezer =w=

Ben Folds

Foo Fighters

Pink Floyd

Stevie Ray Vaughan

Movies:

I'm a big comedy man. Let's be honest, who doesn't love to laugh? That's probably why Bill Murray is probably one of my favorites. Anything will Bill in it became a good movie. Plus, he's a Cub fan and orginally from Chicago, what's not to like about him?
However, my favorite movie of all time is The Blues Brothers.

The Hunt for Red October
Monty Python: Life of Brian
James Bond 007- Goldfinger
Eurotrip
Blue Collar Comedy Tour
Pumpkin
American Pie

Television:

What kind of question is this? My name is Bart, how can I not like The Simpsons?

Sealab 2021
Everybody Loves Raymond
Drawn Together
That '70s Show
Home Improvement
Family Guy
Futurama

Books:

I'm a big fan of Philip Pullman's first book of the "His Dark Materials" series called The Golden Compass. It mixes fantasy with reality and it just an amazing book for the imagination. The rest of the series kind of sucked though.
But a book that holds a special place for me is To Kill a Mockingbird. The whole idea of seeing racism and evil in the world through a child's eyes and then having those rebels, like Atticus Finch, who try to stand in the way of the evil from ever happening is just amazing. I also got to be apart of the ISU play version of the story when I was 10. I played the best friend, "Dill", so I guess you could argue that I'm biased to this book. he he he

Heroes:

Ron Santo is my overall hero. I mean, he was an amazing Cub third baseman and all that, but what makes him such a great person that I look up to is how he played with diabetes. He never let that stand in the way. I try to compare/contrast myself to him because I try not to let all of the challenges in my life stand in the way of living normally. And after all he's been through, like the two amputations, he still has an amazing outlook on life.

"And I Won't Be Coming Back 'Round Here No More"

It's funny in a sense how the future can be so predictible. I know, there's always the variable of hindsight being 20/20, but what if events happen that you truly did predict? For example when I was a...
