AnubisXII. The Band

About Me

Anubis is the self-proclaimed 'leader' of this band. The players are old imaginary friends that have stayed with him over the years. Through good times and bad. Their disputes and scuffles are usually quick and meaningless because they happen so often, they are pretty much expected and the outcome is always predictable. Each player has the same philosophies, attitudes, passions, and likes and dislikes, but never at the same time. There is always some sort of tension developing in the studio between the band. High anxiety and peaking stress levels have usually weaved their way into the fabric that sometimes unsuccessfully holds the things together that are necessary for any kind of developing musical thought or idea long enough to become a completed project. A good example of that is heard in Bastard. Well... I temporarily removed Bastard for unknown reasons until further notice. You would have liked it too. Wacky groove. 7/8 with a 4/4 groove feel, alternating time signatures with 4/4 time in an odd time feel. It has a strange gooey center that lasts for... about 6 seconds. It is about as difficult to grasp as a wiggley puppy, but it's "what the hell was that about"-ness is over as quickly as it began, and forgotten about as it throws the song into a rapid 12/8ish 4/4 feel that pulls you in and abruptly ends. It is only about 2 or 3 minutes long, but I think it may make a nice intro to a story that has yet to be told...or written. Sweet T Sunshine is my first attempt at doing something built around the synths. I programmed an electronic drum pattern that was busy enough to repeat without eventually sounding tired and repetative and laid down the basic holding pattern with the keys to assemble the skeleton. The body consists of bass and guitar, of course, but the Alesis synth was able to produce a sound that I used in the beginning that is similar to the sound of a short-wave radio searching... but not expecting to make contact. The drums solidify that contact. The background guitar and other random sounds signify the unknown and unexpected. At the same time, there is still contact. The music builds and strengthens as time passes, throwing hints of weirdness and surprise as it begins to click. The song closes with piano and the natural sound of the classical guitar, for purity and truth. The entire song was spur-of-the-moment, and influenced by the unknowing. This is her song. She walked in, she flooded my darkest days with the most beautiful glow, and most importantly, made me smile... Made me forget... Oh now this one's weird. The (illegal) Immigrant Song was thrown together by yours truly after discovering the endless possibilities of meticulously cutting up a 12 second sound bite and rearranging words, syllables, and other vocal noises. But a guest appearance by the voice of the Democratic Party, Howeird Dean (the best thing that's ever happened to the GOP) makes it worth listening to.
YYZ? You ask about YYZ? What? We can't throw a cover tune out there every once in a while?
La Villa StrangiatoLoose translation: "Weird City"One of Rush's greatest songs has been torn apart by a pack of wild dogs. Dogs we all know as "AnubisXII. The Band".Or butchered, if you prefer.I've been working on this song for a while. I would like to say that it is completed, but since I am an honest little fella, I must say that I have simply given up. This song is definately one of the most difficult songs I have ever tried to try to duplicate in my entire friggen life. Woah. It's quite the bitch.I am pretty much pleased with the how the bass turned out, but in order to fix the guitar and drums, I would have to start from the very beginning, re-record, and tweak everything from the get-go. That's a stupid word. Get-go. I don't think I have ever used that word before. Is get-go even a word? Or is it two words? I don't know. Would it be classified as one word since it has a hymen? Is that what you call that little line thing? Or is that what you perform on someone who is choking, "the hymen maneuver"? I don't know... I just don't know.

Oh, I also have an Alesis QS6 synth and a Yamaha PRsumpthin sumpthin that I control with 'Taurus Pedals' I made from a set of pedals off an old Hammond organ. Still have yet to master that beast. Kawai R-50, R-50e, and R-100 make up the percussion section.
Influences: Rush, Slayer, Metallica (the Burton era), Megadeth, Tool, STP, Alice in Chains, Interphase (from Baytown), Pantera, and (insert your name here)
