About Me

When thinking of Vitamin E, the noun usually evokes thoughts of a healthy circulatory system and younger-looking skin rather than emceeing. Most certainly a peculiar, if not interesting, name for a rapper, Vitamin E actually received the bestowing of his moniker from one of his cohorts in rhyme at the time, in quite a capricious manner. One day, while honing their craft with their DJ, vitamin’s colleague randomly declared that he would ‘start calling him Vitamin E’. Instead of questioning the sanity, reasoning or motive of giving him such an eccentric stage name, he adopted it instantly, realizing it was in fact, a cross-promotional wet dream. The name stuck, and thus, a star was born; or rather, a chemical was conceived, an element was created, a substance was formulated—whatever, you get the drift.Vitamin E, born Edward Platt, Jr. was raised in the ‘birthplace of aviation’ (that’s Dayton, Ohio for you history buffs), hailing from the same area that produced such luminaries as Roger “Zapp” Troutman (with Troutman studios being only mere blocks away from his residence) and the groups The Ohio Players and Heatwave, to name a few. With such an arbitrary name, it’s probably quite difficult to anticipate what to expect from such an artist. Pill-popping, child-proof caps, GNC stores, recommended daily allowance charts, and visits to the pharmacist probably flood the minds of the uninitiated. Those imagining trite subject matter will most likely be disappointed, although vitamin E is not entirely exempt to rapping about the typical topics (i.e. women, wack emcees, money—or lack thereof, etc.) that pervade throughout Hip-Hop. Utilizing a blend of imagination, creativity, wittiness, and a sharp sense of humor, Vitamin E isn’t afraid to take risks or remain true to himself, which ironically, fails most artists who adapt a 'keep it real' approach.Unlike other rappers who usually pursue emceeing for hedonistic and monetary rewards, Vitamin E initially started his foray into lyricism because: A) he thought ‘it was fun’, and B) it was a natural progression from his earlier years as a traditional writer. Vitamin E cites some of his early influences as: A Tribe called Quest and Biz Markie. Thanks to his sister however, that list expands to artists such as Spice 1, Ice Cube, Salt-N-Pepa, The Geto Boys, N.W.A., Big Mike, Ant Banks, Mobb Deep and E-40, to name a few.In 2004, Vitamin E collaborated with rappers Kres and Dos to create an EP entitled “Ohio Players”. He is currently working on an oft-delayed, long awaited, much anticipated solo album entitled “Year of the Monkey”. Vitamin E has opened shows for artists Breeze Evahflowin, Mars Ill, Heiruspecs, and Blueprint and Illogic, to name a few.Myspace Layouts
