Born & raised in South Philadelphia, Mz.Baddiva aka Yakia always had a love for music. Although she never had the drive to do anything with her talents, she was lucky enough to come across people who did. Showing she had skills to her mother at the age of 13, she left it alone after her father showed his distaste for it. He told her "if you cannot write about what you see then you don't need to do it." What she saw was no picnic. At the age of 18, she was introduced to her cornerstone, MetSki - the beat boy, and began the writing process all over again. And she did just what her father told her to - write about what you see. "I've been thru a lot of drama and heartache and craziness, but who hasnt."
After years of learning everyone else's lyrics, Mz.BadDiva started writing lyrics of her own. It wasn't until 2003 while at a party that she met DJ Mike Nice - King Of The Crates, that she realized "i'm actually hot," after battling "some guy" in the parking lot across from the club. She decided to let go of her inhibitiions and start to make music.
"Took a long time but IM HERE. And now yall have to deal with me. Been re-inventing and revamping the BADDiva but still remains a LYRICIST at heart. I AM NOT A RAPPER. I write with feeling, meaning and thought behind my concepts. I WRITE MY OWN SHIT..I dont have no caspers so aint no ghost writing going on" she says with a smile.
