I am here for Friends

About Me

My parents fled communist Cuba in the late 60's under the ruse of honeymooning in Spain. The following year, they lied to get my near birth-ready mother onto a plane destined for California, soon after producing my sister. After a few years of adjusting to the States, they generated me. Some near-death experiences and another sibling later, I was an adult. Since then, I've pursued a mad desire for science and animals, intermittently broken by mini-rock stardom, pool, cartoons, and random fits of laughter.

Some call me an animal welfare researcher or applied ethologist, because most of my work/research is at the zoo. Penguin hugger or polar bear protector might be more appropriate. This has resulted in the National Science Foundation (NSF) giving me a rather decent-sized grant to be an NSF postdoctoral fellow in Seattle for the next 2 years. So, I'll be a visiting scientist at University of Washington, playing with my penguins and furry friends at the Woodland Park Zoo, and watching the orcas in Puget Sound. Yeah, I know, my life sucks...

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

This guy:

Unfortunately, someone has trapped him in glass and placed him in the Smithsonian. From beautiful Swedish folk song singer and cook, to suffering the same fate as General Zod...it's almost unthinkable.

Speaking of which, I'd like to meet General Zod as well. I'm hoping he could give me some fashion tips.

WWZJD?

I have nothing of significant value to say here.  I just wanted to point something out, since it is Easter Sunday.  As usual, children are enjoying artificial sugars, painted eggs, and pictu...

Abuela abuela...

I guess I thought it was odd when the phone rang early this morning and it was my parents calling.  You'd think I would've known to not check the message until after the two tests for 500 student...

Eat your bowl of apathy...

Once again, it's superbowl time, and once again, I'm left without much care over which team wins.  Granted, these are strange occurrences, given that I'm in the one town that is almost equally sp...

An Incontinent Toot

Is it just me, or am I the only one watching the state of the union address the other night in shear bafflement? Was this the same president? The one who so adamantly advertised our need to fight "t...

Get out of my space, Myspace!
