So, a little about me... I was born in the UK, South Wales then my family and I moved to and lived in Jamaica for about four years. I have been in the U.S. ever since (Boston, CT, and now Brooklyn).Hmmm, I do have a memory I would like to share.
Ok, so I remember the day I fell in love. I was about 9 years old and in church. My dad was on the pulpit leading the congregation in song from the church hymnal. I on the other hand was staring at the band. There he was, Danny, a big dude sitting on a tiny throne. He had one foot on pedal and the other on the hi-hat. His hands were holding sticks which did amazing tricks and I was mesmerized. There it was, I thought to myself. I'm in love, NOT WITH DUDE-MAN but with the drums. I felt her move through me like fire water. All I was thinking at that moment was, how can I become a great drummer. As I got older music was always a part of my life. I came from a family of 9 - mom, dad, and 6 older siblings. I was number 7. We were like the black Partridge family. My brothers were on bass, guitar, and keys. My father played the banjo and sister sang. I'm telling you, we ROCKED every church Sundays. I remembered being encouraged by some to play and discouraged by others. Some would say, "A young lady like yourself shouldn't do such a thing." So, eventually I stopped playing for a while to please others. Time is funny... I eventually came back into playing and fell in love all over again. Now, I try to embrace this love that God has given me. MUSIC.
