About Me
SHON NICES"I.. use to want to be a Emceeeee/ until the feds came and twisted me/ threw me up in M.C.Ceeee/ with felons that been gone since the eighties/and wont be home again until their 80"- Shon Nices Caged birds . True to life and form, those words are the reality of what the eyes of Chicagos own Shon Nices has seen, and what his soul and body has endured. Some call it pain. Some call it struggle. "I call it rock bottom", says Shon Nices. "And it takes much discipline and focus when you hit bottom, so that you can aim and reach the top again." Unfortunately, like most Young black men who have become successful, Shon Nices was a target by many and eventually went to prison because of it. Before his incarceration, he was a one of the next hottest artist coming out of Chicago. The life of a young artist name Shon Nices began to grow, but so did another life, that Shon Nices describes as, "Something that you can read about in my autobiography that will come out. Its one of my many books I wrote while I was in the system......But for now, you can look forward to a novel that is coming out soon called 'Best'. And all I can say is everything happens for a reason, its all a learning process." Throughout High School he would perform countless freestyle sessions and shows. "Most of the time, he would just ignore his love for the music because he had a lot of responsibilities at a young age, and he was way too busy taking care of his business. And he was doing a lot of major things at a young age. But from time to time, he would write music down on whatever was handy, and record it when he could." And so he recorded and put together his first demo with one of Chicagos hottest producers, Johnny Billups A.K.A. J-Bill of Trak Brokers(Harpo Studios, Earth Wind and Fire, Do or Die). He continued to develop as an artist and as an entrepreneur by forming his companies and independent label called Novelist Entertainment. From there, he wrote, produced, arranged, and even manage artist himself. Proving his dedication to music, he recorded, and marketed his first official solo effort called, 'The Next Coming' which was released as a promotional album only and was well received by a estimated 50,000 listeners in the Midwest market and Down South market. The CD was bootlegged by boosters and sold for $10 dollars on the streets. This happened with in 4 weeks of the release of the album which generated a small buzz that created interest from Industry insiders which led to Shon Nices working with others such as Wendy Day of Rap Coalition, Black Spot (Formerly of B.E.T. and 360hiphop.com), Aja Johnson of Atlantic Records, and a host of others from Majors to Indie's. All have spoke positively of the artist and his music. During an on air interview with an Atlanta, Georgia radio station, Ludacris was asked who or what artist he has in his CD rotation in his car. He mentioned Shon Nices was one of them at that time. Just when things were starting to take off for this talented artist, he was arrested, indicted and sentenced to prison for years. This put his career on hold. Before his incarceration, he appeared, and performed a numerous events along side other major recording artist including Opening up for such acts like TI at Tuskegee Spring fest (Montgomery, AL), S.I.U. Spring Jamm (Carbondale, IL). Budweiser Illest MC Showcase (Chicago, IL), just to name a few. During his incarceration, he wrote 3 novels, a unfinished autobiography, a movie script, a pilot for a comedy sitcom, and also educated and taugh music business to fellow inmates, while also perfmoring shows within the prison system during his incarceration. He was well received by fellow inmates as one of the realest emcees to tear down a show from the inside despite oppression and the conditions they were jailed in. Since being released recently from Prison and returning home, he has hooked back up with well known Chicago producer Johnny Billups of Trak Brokers, and John Bless of God Bless Beatz. He has collaborated with Feloney of Public Announcement,Chan of 1047 music and recorded a new hot single produced by Johnny Billups featuring Teddy Cain called Catch Me. The single received its first spin on WGCI during the mid-day show with radio Personality Bionce Fox and DJ Phantom who both spoke positive about the single and the artist. DJ Phantom said, "Shon Nices has great potential." He is currently in the studio finishing upcoming mixtapes and his untitled project to his upcoming National Release. His latest Mixtape "Death of a Dope Boy" will be released iin the 2nd quarter of 2007. The mixtape has been leaked and has reached an estimated 20,000 listeners.
