With her birthday just 2 days after Christmas, the name Concepta (which is a reference to the Virgin Mary and the Immaculate Conception) seems quite appropriate. Born in Cape Town and raised in Durban, South Africa, like a lot of little girls, Concepta dreamed of becoming a "Pop Star".
At the tender age of 5, her father, (Leslie Chetty, a Gospel musician and Pastor of "People's Church Of God, Cape Town"), placed Concepta front and center as the lead vocalist performing in Church and numerous local venues. Being an A-student in music and receiving private vocal lessons, Concepta knew from the very beginning, music was part of her purpose on earth. Through her teens, she continued performing throughout South Africa before venturing out to tour the world to places like Zimbabwe, Dubai and Bahrain.
In 1999, Concepta found herself in the heart of the Sinai in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, as the Headlining Act for several major hotel chains including the Hilton and Marriott.
Being part of the entertainment industry, Concepta was aware of how "Stardom" could be achieved and assumed her path to success would be the same. However, the industry's definition of "success" didn't quite line up with Concepta's moral values and beliefs. She didn't want to dress, sing or behave in a manner the industry considered successful. She didn't believe she needed to attach sex to her music to sell albums.
Now with New York City as her new home and mother of two beautiful sons, Concepta continues to stay true to who she is in Christ. Through her music and personal story, she aims to educate, empower and inspire young girls to love and respect themselves for the beautiful people God created them to be. "Its all about knowing who you truly are. Your identity in Christ" says Concepta "and to know that is to have a personal relationship with our Heavenly Father, our Creator, Jesus Christ"
