Melanie is a rhythm, blues, jazz and contemporary gospel songstress whose vocals draw comparisons to soul sirens Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan, and Aretha Franklin. A Los Angeles native, Melanie currently resides in Northern Virginia. Melanie has eight children four daughters and four sons which all are talented and soon to become a name in the spotlight. One of Melanies sons has already embarked into the life of a superstar. Novel was the first R&B artist to sign with Rawkus Records now with Rowdy Records and the Dallas Austin Camp. He has already been in several of the top magazines in the country such as The Source, Billboard, XXL, Sister 2 Sister, Russell Simmons One World to name a few. You can hear his musical flare from the Diary of a Mad Black Woman Movie Soundtrack by Tyler Perry with India Arie, Monica, and his latest collaboration effort with Kelis "Bossy". Melanie Burke is more than just a mom and a typical vocalist. The following are just a few of her many accomplishments that demonstrate her versatility as an entertainer. In 1982, Melanie had the pleasure of touring Hawaii and Japan with Chaka Khan on the "What You Gonna Do For Me" tour. She has also worked as a freelance background recording artist with companies such as Casablanca, A&M Records, and Motown; and accompanied artists and groups such as Billy Preston, the Anna Gayes group Peacock, and the London Records recording group, Hodges, James, and Smith. In September of 2005, Melanie' premiered her gospel single "Yesterday" , on Stage "Live" at the Paradisio in Amsterdam the Netherlands with her Father. She also performed at the renowned Kimmel Center of the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, Pa. If the last name Burke sounds familiar, it is due to the fact that she is the daughter of the legendary rhythm and blues 2001 Hall of Fame Inductee Solomon Burke. In 2003, he received a Grammy for the "Best Contemporary Blues Album". Among Melanies accomplishments, she was the Music & Drama instructor for the Park and Recreations in Wichita, Kansas, Music Teacher for Goldsboro Middle School in North Carolina and the Music & Drama instructor for the Park and Recreations at the school district of Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Melanie also has vast acting experience, in 1991; Melanie made her acting debut at the Cape Fear Regional Theater in the production of Dream girls. She starred as Effie, the role that elevated Rhythm and Blues artist Jennifer Holliday to stardom on Broadway. In 1997, she performed in "Times Like These" at the Palace Theater in New Haven, Connecticut. Other productions such as California Dolls, White Momma, (with Betty Davis), and Palmer Town, USA (a series written and directed by the late Alex Haley). Melanie was the Director of the stage play "A Sinners Prayer". Now she is the writer and director of her powerful stage play "Trouble Dont Last" which has an original soundtrack that is written and produced by Melanie, family and friends.
