It’s hard to categorise our sound as we've a few thumbs (6 between us) in a fair few pies, but if you had to label us 'indie/folk/pop' would probably stick; adding the tag 'chillout'. Our songs are usually dark stories told in pretty harmonic tunes. They can take you from the mean streets of the city to the banks of the river Seine”

We, Samantha Carpenter, Justine Barker and Beverley Goacher have been friends for eons but Smiling Knife was born in a skanky rehearsal room in 2005. We took to the stage playing the South London and Brighton open mic circuit cultivating a small but die hard following on the way.

We are proud to admit our appeal is a little quirky, we love being in this band and we want to share the fun and the music. Come and see us live. We promise to entertain.
