About Me

I know this is long, but isn't the point for you to get to know me?!
I'm pretty much your typical guy. I like fast cars, fast motorcycles, flying planes and of course having a good time hanging out with friends and family. I have a lot of hobby's and interests, including photography, videography, cycling (road bikes), camping, rock climbing and rappelling, target shooting with my .40cal Glock, and drawing. I definitely spend more time doing some of these things than the others, but I try to always find time to enjoy each one as often as possible.
My wife, Joanie, and I were married in 2005. We've known each other for a long time. Although we knew each other long before, we didn't start dating until summer 1997.
I began serving in the US Air Force in Sept 1997 and separated in Sept 2001. I miss being in the AF. I had a lot of great experiences, great friends and really enjoyed the job I was doing. Of the 4 years I served, I spent the first year training at various bases across the country. The next 3 years I spent stationed at Robins AFB, GA, with the 99th Air Refueling Squadron. During that time I spent close to 600 days on the road flying and living out of my suitcase. I loved every minute of it!!!
My decision to not re-enlist was based mainly on my desire to finish my BS degree. I had completed my assoc degree prior to 1997 but had not been able to take any more classes while in the AF.
I have several friends who are still serving in the AF. Some have crosstrained to different jobs, while others have continued to do the jobs they enjoy so much. I have a lot of respect for them and the courage and commitment they exhibit by serving our country for so long and with such determination. So thanks to all of you and your families for your service.
Between 1997 and 2005, Joanie and I dated off and on. She finished her degree during that time and has been teaching for almost 7 years now. I'm very proud of her and the work she's done over the years. Not only is she a school teacher, but she has the added stress and work of being a Special Education teacher. In 2006 she started grad school to get her masters degree in counseling. She is really looking forward to finishing that and becoming a school counselor. Again, I'm very proud of her and how hard she is working to teach as well as go to school at the same time.
I have a fairly large extended family. My older brother has 3 kids, 2 boys and a girl. My mom has 2 younger sisters who each had 2 kids, one with 2 boys, the other a boy and a girl. My dad has a younger brother who has 2 boys also. So between the 3 sets of aunts/uncles, I have 5 boy cousins and 1 girl cousin. When you consider that my mom and dad each had several sets of aunts/uncles too, then the family tree branches out very quickly. Joanie has an older sister who just had her second son. There sure are a lot of boys in our family!!!
Joanie and I don't have any kids yet. I'll love any child I have, but I'm hoping for 2 boys. Call it tradition :) We're not planning to have children until after she's out of grad school at the earliest.
Like many pet owners, we consider ourselves "parents" already though. She brought two cats to the alter, and summr 2006 I finally followed through on my desire to have a dog. I grew up with a dog, two actually, at different times. The first was a pure Beagle named Christopher Columbus. My brother came up with that name, I was like 2 years old at the time. At the age of 4, we moved to Germany and had to give the dog to an uncle. When we moved to Michigan 3 years later, we got another dog. He was very white as a puppy and so my brother and I named him Snoopy. He was a Cocker Spaniel - Spitz mix. He lived to be almost 17 years old before we finally had to put him down because his quality of life was quickly deteriorating. That was around 1995, so I've been waiting quite some time now to get a dog of my own. Most of that wait was waiting for just the right dog to come along. I've been wanting a Beagle, a pure one. Well last year, 2006, just the right one did come along. He was about 4 or 5 months old at the time. I decided to get him, and then I had to name him. In honor of the dog I had for 16 years I decided to name him Snoopy Junior. The fact that he is a Beagle had nothing to do with his name, I swear!!!
And there you have it...all you ever wanted to know about me and, more than likely, more than you really wanted to know :)
I'm looking forward to getting to know many more people. Don't be a stranger and drop me a line.
additional stuff:
I love going for cruises in my Corvette or on my motorcycle. During Formula One season you'll find me every other weekend rooting for my longtime favorite team...McLaren. The drivers may change every few years, but I'll always remain a McLaren fan. Good luck to Kimi at Ferrari this year.

My Interests

I love photography. I own a Minolta 7D digital SLR. It works great. I've had it a couple years now and have taken thousands of pictures with it.
SONY now owns Minolta's camera business and has plans to release two new digital SLR cameras over the next several months that are going to be really high-end. I'm looking forward to those! This is my camera, just a different lens.

Me, on the right, and a few buddies in college. We hosted a Halloween party in our dorm building one year. If there had been a fifth member in KISS, Super Dawg Matt Smith would've been in the picture with us I'm sure.
Anything fast....cars, motorcycles, planes, boats, etc. Really enjoy photography, videography, video editing and DVD authoring. Not really into college football, but I love Auburn...WAR EAGLE!!!!

I'd like to meet:

I love meeting new and interesting people.
If you have time, send me a message and tell me a about yourself.

May he Rest In Peace (3/21/60-5/1/94), but I wish I had had the opportunity to meet Ayrton Senna at some point during my lifetime. He may only have been a race driver, but he used his successes to make a difference for others. It was watching him race during the late 80s and early 90s that help develop my interest in Formula One racing and the F1 team McLaren.

I had the opportunity to meet McLaren team boss, Ron Dennis, breifly in the lobby of a hotel in Indianapolis, IN, during race week for the US Grand Prix. He very kindly autographed a book that he had co-authored. The book is the history behind the development of the McLaren F1 road car.

During a trip to England in 1994, I had the opportunity to visit the McLaren Automotive facility in Woking, UK. Despite how many people (like myself) I'm sure they have dropping by, they were still very kind and welcoming. After speaking with the PR manager for a few minutes, he asked me to wait in the lobby. When he returned, he had in hand a copy of the official sales brochure (more like a book) for the F1 road car, a road test/performance brochure, and 4 large color prints of the F1 road car prototype. I now have these prints framed and hanging on the wall.

I have a lot of respect for Ron Dennis as a businessman and the way he's managed McLaren over the years. McLaren is more than a race team, and has many other business interests. I would love to be able to sit down and pick his brain to learn from him what he's learned over the years from all of his experiences.

Update: Aug 21, 2007

Well I can strike one more off my list. I had said I was wanting to meet Kelly B. Well as of last week I have.
Her name is Kelly. She's a model and has done work for my friend Sam at Fast and Sexy Magazine. He's used my car and motorcycle for his shoots before. Well he asked me along on another shoot this past week. Kelly and Stefanie were the models. They were fantastic. We had a lot of fun. Kelly was even more friendly than I had expected. I look forward to working with her again in the future. The same can be said about Stefanie. She was a very beautiful girl, and a lot of fun to get to know. Next time I think we'll go somewhere other than 3 DOLLAR CAFE afterward though!!!! Who's ever heard of turning off your grill 3 hours before closing at a restaurant!!!!!

Go check them out on FastandSexy.com.

Music:

Easy answer is everything from Classical to some Metal. I really like Bluegrass. There are a few things I just don't listen to, such as Country and Opera. Let's put it this way, my iPod is very conflicted and has probably suffered permanent psychological damage.

Movies:

Like music, I like lots of different movies, so my home theater gets a pretty good work out. I've actually ripped all my DVDs to hard drive. My computer is hooked up to my Sony AV reciever, and functions as my DVD jukebox. Still missing a few things though. I'd like to get a good HD projector and screen, and a few flat-panels in some other rooms to stream movies and other video sources to.

Check out my blog entries. I'll be updating one of them regularly with a complete list of all the DVDs in my collection.

Television:

Well I don't watch much TV in my old age. In my younger years though, there was a laundry list of shows I'd watch. Let's see how many I can remember...
Airwolf, Street Hawk, Automan, Manimal, Andy Griffith, Happy Days, Dukes of Hazard, Knight Rider, A-Team, Gilligan's Island, Brady Bunch, I Love Lucy, I Dream of Jeanie, Bewitched, Alice, Lavern and Shirely, Cheers, Carol Burnett Show, Ralph - The Greatest American Hero, Mork and Mindy, Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica, and of course Captain Kangaroo.
Now-a-days there are a few shows I try to see each week.
On Sundays I like to watch Extreme Home Makeover on ABC. On Tuesdays I watch, or DVR for later, Deadliest Catch on Discovery. Other shows I watch if not busy are King of the Hill, That 70s Show, How It's Made, and pretty much anything that comes on TLC, Discovery, Science Channel, Speed (no NASCAR!!!!), and History.
During Formula One season, you'll find me spending Friday through Sunday, every other weekend, sitting in front of the tv glued to Speed for all the race coverage. Racing to me are cars that turn right and left (at over 4 Gs), and go from 40 to 200+ mph all within the same 1min30sec lap. With budgets of $500-700 million a year, Formula1 cars are packed with technology and make for some pretty expensive accidents. It's pretty ironic when a $2 part takes one out of the race.
I've been watching Formula1 for many more years than this, but it really became a serious pasttime in the mid to late 80s. Ayrton Senna was driving for McLaren at the time. That combination of driver and team was incredible. I've been a fan of McLaren ever since.

I'd have to say that my favorite tv show of all time has been the Andy Griffith Show. Like many I too think the show unfortunately lost a lot of its flair when Don Knotts left. But even those last 3 seasons left me with a lot of laughs.
This is an interesting new show. I'm not a big fan of comedy shows, they tend to become a little dry in the humor department over time. I will say that I think it's about time that a comedy show with a conservative twist has hit the airwaves. We'll see how it turns out. Here's some background about it on Wikipedia - 1/2 Hour News Hour

Books:

Other than hitting the magazine rack on occassion, I don't get much reading in.

Heroes:

My grandfather and my dad, who both served in the US Air Force, and inspired me to do the same. And of course all those men and women who have served and are serving to protect our country and our freedoms.

I served in the US Air Force for 4 years as a Boom Operator on the KC-135R Tanker. Above is the Ribbon Rack holding the awards and decorations that I earned while I was serving.

I flew on the large plane you see above. It's a KC-135R tanker. The Air Force used it to conduct air refueling operations. If you look closely you can see a "boom" hanging down from the rear of it. I would lay in the back of the plane, look out a window, and fly that boom. In the picture below you can see the boom "in contact" with an F-15 Eagle. While in contact, the tanker aircraft would transfer fuel through the boom to the receiver aircraft.
