Petty Theft

About Me

HARRISON

Hometown: Little Rock, Arkansas....a bass player's bass player.....has played bass 32 years....and make no mistake about it--he's a bass player, not some displaced, couldn't-cut-it-so-let's-see-how-we-do-on-bass guitar player....owns somewhere in the vicinity of 20 basses; primarily plays a Mike Lull through Alembic preamps, Crown power amps, and Ampeg cabinets....previous bands: The Wanted, Secret Service, Jet Black, the Briefcase Blues Band....is King of the Ozarks (KotO), reigning over his subjects with a hickory scepter and a swirl bowling ball....before Petty Theft makes any move, one question that must be answered is 'what will KotO think?'....a former Punt, Pass and Kick winner, with a 60-yard kick putting him over the top....wishes he could sing like Robin Zander; others consider that vile dreck....the only person in the free world as we know it today who has lived in San Francisco, Austin and Las Vegas and hates all three....when Petty Theft is in normal stage formation, he stands on the far right....that is no accident....TALK TO HIM ABOUT: any and all things bass guitar, backyard smoking and grilling, conservative politics, Scottish terriers, rhinos, assembly language programming....DON'T TALK TO HIM ABOUT: the political left

JIM

Hometown: Reno, Nevada....played piano since he was 4....the most recent addition to Petty Theft, joining in early 2005....hooked up with Petty Theft through a cattle call audition process and was almost immediately identified by most of the others as the man for the job....came to Petty Theft from Hypressure, a succesful r&b cover band which he founded in 2001....past colleagues include Colin Hay, Jean-Luc Ponty, Rob Pilatus, Cecilia Noel, Elvin Bishop, and Chicago....at home in a solo environment, working with bands, or with a full orchestra....a significant proponent of Roland keyboards, although the Nord Electro has gotten his attention....has a 14-inch waistline and an 8-Mountain Dew-an-hour addiction....TALK TO HIM ABOUT: the '80's, synthesizers, Apple computers, the current Vegas line, being a high school narc, opportunities in stem cell research, Woodstock, Hostess Ding Dongs, principles of fractal surgery....DON'T TALK TO HIM ABOUT: cheese, milk, or other dairy products, the playoffs, minor feminine itching, golf ("Golf sucks. I play twice a week."), livestock, OU football, breakdancing

DREW

DREW is the newest addition to Petty Theft, sitting in the back holding wood and beating plastic and metal......he was born and raised in Atlanta, GA and received his first drumset at age 6.....moved here to attend UNT, where he done got himself gradumarated.....plays in/and used to play in many bands around the metroplex, from Rock to Jazz to R&B to Prog to Pop to Polka. He used to teach full-time, but is on sabbatical. Favorite word: Hello. He would like one day to go hang gliding or paragliding, He digs crossword puzzles ... he's lived in Rhode Island for three years.....listens to NPR daily.....TALK TO HIM ABOUT: drums, drummers, music, traditional vs. matched grip, his two kids, movies, hugging trees, The Daily Show, Frank Zappa, photorealism, the effect of climate on the development of Western civilization.....DON'T TALK TO HIM ABOUT: guacamole, Sean Hannity, sports (can't offer much there), W, excessive product packaging, using "quotes" when they're not "needed", double negatives, Max Weinberg, labradoodles.....

BILL

BILL: the offensive coordinator of Petty Theft....has plied his craft on guitar and/or keyboards with several cover bands no one has ever heard of throughout the '80's and '90's....bats: left....throws: right....favorite note: F......number of TP&HB albums owned: 0.... things he likes about TP&HB: vast and highly varied repertoire; tasteful use of vintage classic gear....favorite TP&HB songs to play with PT: 'Have Love Will Travel', 'It'll All Work Out', 'The Waiting', 'Change of Heart'....favorite member of TP&HB: Benmont Tench...favorite things about playing with PT: playing with good players who are low key, punctual, solvent, sober under most circumstances, and frequently get flea dipped....favorite Ranger: Justin Thompson....favorite seafood restaurant chain: Legal Seafood....other favorite things: schnitzel with noodles, brown paper packages tied up with string....TALK TO HIM ABOUT: His good friend Bob Saccamano, Egbert Souse (accent grave over the 'e'), Rangers baseball, Shawn Lane, progressive rock of the '70's and henceforth....DON'T TALK TO HIM ABOUT: Larry David, Racheal Ray, con men of the New Jersey or Arkansas varitey, Nathan Lane

MIKE

Trying to re-invent himself after spending entire playing career on drums and it's not going terribly well....what got him into TP&HB: "no one particular thing, other than a healthy respect for what they do, what they are, and the way they go about it all that developed over a period of time....and as demographic contemporaries, it's always been very apparent that we cut our musical teeth on the same stuff back in the day"....thing he likes most about playing with PT: "great players who, for the most part, understand the group concept....when I was really serious about this stuff, I would have killed for a bunch of guys like this....but now we all act like we should have back thenf"....thing he likes least about playing with PT: "I like every song we do so much that I can't differentiate favorites; therefore, when it comes to that, it's hard for me to exercise good judgment"....TALK TO HIM ABOUT: all things Petty, Steely Dan, Spirit, baseball, football, basketball, the Ticket--all the usual stuff....DON'T TALK TO HIM ABOUT: "you talk to me, you take your chances"

RODNEY

Grew up in Garland and has played guitar since he was 7....cut his teeth in bands such as the Nomads of Garland's Bussey Jr. High and the Barking Spyders....ran sound and lights at the Fairmont Hotel's noted Venetian Room, where John Gary, Ed Ames, Frank Gorshin, John Davidson, Sonny & Cher, Roger Miller, Eartha Kitt, the Supremes, and many more held forth....he says, "Those old school artists were very jaded and demanding of a young Garland Owl and I had to get it together fast"....went on the road with the Bellamy Brothers just as "Let Your Love Flow' was going certified gold, touring the Euro world with them....returned to Dallas and backed up the Coasters, Sam the Sham, and Bo Diddley-"all in a gig's work for the perennial sideman"....then came his Texas singer-songwriter phase, which brought him under the watchful eye of Tommy Alverson, Gary P. Nunn, Larry Joe Taylor, Ed Burleson, and Cory Morrow....original member of the Neon Glowboys and Blondy....TALK TO HIM ABOUT: being an original member of the Neon Glowboys and Blondy, guitars, amps, pop music, country music, horses, Cowboys football, world travel....DON'T TALK TO HIM ABOUT: being an original member of the Neon Glowboys and Blondy, religion, politics, Greenspan and the Fed, school taxes, any taxes, government waste, Iraq, Syria, anything Asian, the people of Tsunami, illegal immigrants, whiny trivial PC nerds who don't begin to understand the ramifications of their liberal cause du jour
