On July 3rd 1983, Sterling Briggs was born to Yvonne and Sylvester Briggs on the Westside of Akron, Ohio. His intense love for music began when his parents exposed him to great artists such as Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, and Donny Hathaway. At the tender age of 13, Sterling realized his gifts and talents for writing and reciting the harsh realities of a troubled youth growing up on the Westside of Akron.His trials and tribulations growing up in the inner city escalated to the point of him having to move to New Haven, Connecticut to live with his father. This move took place during his sophomore year in high school and served as a way for him to regain focus and stability in his life. While attending Hamden High School, Sterling befriended Pierre Medor of the production duo Tha Corna Boyz. Pierre and Sterling began to record songs and develop an excellent musical chemistry.Through hard work, his own determination, and the tutelage of Pierre, Sterling honed his craft as a respected lyricist with a distinctive voice and rhythmic delivery. His popularity at school quickly increased because of his talents rhyming and playing basketball. People began to refer to Sterling as OHIO. That title has stuck with him and embodies his love for his home state as well as his intention to represent the Midwest to the world at large.OHIO graduated high school and has continued his education at the Ohio State University. He has since been writing and recording music and continues to collaborate with Tha Corna Boyz and other producers. OHIO has recently released the mixtapes, Razor Sharp Volumes 1 and 2 which have become hood classics in various cities in Ohio. The CDs have accumulated sales of more than 1500 units with very limited promotional resources. He has been able to garner such success and support for his movement through his heartfelt delivery and relatable, true-to-life point of view. OHIO has a very bright future ahead with plenty new hot music in store.
