Northern Ireland born flautist Eimear McGeown lives in London, graduating from Trinity College of Music in 2005 with a Bachelor of Music Degree(First class) and the Silver Medal Award for Woodwind/Brass/Percussion Faculty 2004/5. She has won many awards including the Harold Clarke Woodwind Prize at TCM, British runner-up of the Lion's European Music Competition in 2006, Prizewinning Finalist in the Eastbourne Concerto competition in Feb2007, Winner of the Camerata Ireland Young Musician of the Year and 'Accenture' Musician of the Year 2006 which was presented by the President of Ireland.
She made her solo TV debut, performing for RTE TV in November 2006 and was chosen as one of Ireland's most promising musicians to make a solo recording for Lyric FM. She has performed as Soloist in America, France, Italy, England and Ireland including a World Premiere of Dave Morris' Concerto in the Library of Congress in Washington DC in March 2007 as part of the Smithsonian festival and more recently performing an American Premiere in New York. Some of her concerto performances have included Mozarts' Concerto in D and Brandenburg Concerto No.5 at the Clandeboye festival in 2005 and 2006, Faure Fantaisie in the NCH, Dublin with Camerata Ireland and Mercadante Concerto in Eminor with the Studio Symphony Orchestra in Lisburn, Ireland.
Eimear has performed solo in the Belfast International Music Festival, Clandeboye Festival, L'Academie Internationale d'Ete de Nice and with the Young Camerata Ireland trio in the John Field room in the National Concert Hall, Dublin. She has also performed duo with the pianist Barry Douglas for the British Ambassador in Paris and Ireland. Other solo recitals include St. James' Church Piccadilly and upcoming performances in St.Martin in the Fields and Lincolnshire International Chamber Music festival 2008.
Eimear also performs on the Traditional Irish Flute and Whistle and was All Ireland Champion twice both as a soloist and trio in 1995 and 1999. Her versatility has led to her performing in the West End Production of 'Lord of the Rings in Theatre Royal, Drury Lane'. Both as a classical and traditional Irish flautist, she has performed for Presidents Bill Clinton, Mary Robinson and Mary McAleese and also performed as soloist for John Major and Prince Charles. She performs as guest with the talented folk/rock band 'Amsterdam', including performances in the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, a live recording in the BBC studios and she recently performed with them in the Glastonbury festival in June 2008.Eimear also plays in the contempory jazz ensemble ‘Fringe Magnetic’ which is part of the innovative LOOP collective and will be performing at the FIRE Festival at Kings Place, London in October 2008.
