The Dan Stein Group plays groovy, rhythmic music that distills jazz, r&b, soul, and funk into a potent, enjoyable stew. Combining rhythmic concepts drawn from funk and soul with extended harmonic concepts derived from the modern classical lexicon as well as George Russell's revolutionary harmonic theories, the Dan Stein Group creates a potent, boundary-defying blend of music which is entertaining and accessible, yet also challenging and thought-provoking.
The music of the Dan Stein Group blends elements of composer/keyboardist Dan Steins musical influences: early jazz/rock pioneers Weather Report, Miles Davis, and Herbie Hancock; 20th-century Western classical music; urban music of the 70's such as Earth, Wind, and Fire and George Clinton's Parliament/Funkadelic bands; and the feel-good grooves of soul-jazz greats such as Lou Donaldson, Grant Green, and the Meters.
"...an impressive collection... a generous helping of groove-oriented cuts which...keep your jazz-ass shakin’ for hours on end." - L. Pounds, !Earshot magazine
