Youthful swagger coupled with bold tenacity to influence popular music, are a few of the qualities that describe this 17 year old brewing sensation. With his unique appeal, G-Steel is known by his emergent following as a young reggae artist with a rare voice and eclectic sound. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and deeply rooted in Jamaican culture, G-Steel was predisposed to reggae music. His father, Natty Remo, a Jamaica born conscious reggae artist, was one of the many influences who helped spark his interest in music.G-Steel’s musical journey began at the tender age of nine. In elementary school, he began testing his musical skills by performing in the choir at his local church and playing a variety of instruments as a member of his school band. These musical experiences helped him realize his talent. “I became interested in music at a young age. I began playing the key board and becoming familiar with chords and notes,†he stated. During that time, the young talent began penning lyrics and composing songs. “I enjoyed creating songs that were honest and relatable,†said G-Steel. His musical influences include an impressive roster of artists such as, Natty Remo (his father), Screechy Dan (his cousin), Jay- Z, Garnet Silk, and Smokey Robinson to name a few.As G-Steel matured in age, his sound became more defined– akin to reggae, dance-hall, hip-hop and pop. The content of his songs diversely range from dance-hall and love songs, to conscious lyrics that chronicle the many social issues presently facing his generation. “Growing up in Brooklyn, a.k.a the Caribbean melting pot, many of my personal and witnessed experiences have been both positive and negative. I use my passion for music as a mental escape from some of the cruel realities of growing up in the streets of Brooklyn. When I am stressed out, music is my stress reliever,†he said.In a recent performance in September, during Screechy Dan’s “Pose Off†concert held at Bar Sputnik in Brooklyn, NY, G-Steel graced the stage and delivered a notable performance that was well received by the crowd. He regularly performs at the Village Underground in New York City on Mondays. He has a number of performances to his credit including, the annual Red, Gold & Green affair held in the Bronx and hosted by Ragga Lox, as well as various events in Brooklyn and Long Island. As for his future, G-Steel plans to continue honing his musical skills and engaging his fans with his mature sound and relatable lyrics. “My music is about every day life.
