Ben Whiteley

About Me

For the first 13 years of Ben Whiteley’s life he did not want anything to do with music. His whole family played and people always asked him, “What do you play?” his response was, “ Baseball.” Eventually his undeniable fate took hold of him and he fell in love with two things that would change his life forever: the electric bass and rock and roll. These were two things that nobody in his family really played. Since that fateful day Ben has become and accomplished bass player, on both upright and electric and has performed across North America with many different arts, performing many different styles. As a bass player he has played with many different musicians performing a broad range of styels. This list of musicians includes: Liam Titcomb (Sony), Ken Whiteley (Raffi, Fred Penner, John Hammond Jr, Tom Paxton). Tom Paxton, Pierre Schryer, Annabelle Chvostek (Wailin Jennys), D avid Wall (Bourbon Tabernacle Choir), Scarlett, Washington & Whiteley, Max Kerman (Arkells) Duane Andrews, David Woodhead, Sacred steele masters the Campbell Brothers and Calvin Cooke, Kathy Reid, Kate Weekes, Amy Campbell Christina Maria Nancy White Not to mention musical encounters with the rest of his crazy musical family Jenny Whiteley, Dan Whiteley, Jesse Whiteley, Chris Whiteley, and Joey Wright. He is currently an active member of both Flashlight Radio and New Country Rehab. As an attendee of the prestigious University of Toronto music program not only has he honed his bass skills he has also has developed very limited skills in; guitar, trumpet, drums, piano, oboe, French horn, clarinet, cello, violin, and viola. His current project is called Flashlight Radio with fellow next-gen folkie Suzy Wilde. When Ben travels he plays an Eminence Upright Bass and has never yet been hassled by the airlines!
