I was born in Duluth,MN and lived there till I was a pre-teen moving to the outskirts to a little town called Wrenshall. My dad was a drummer playing small bars and weddings around Duluth and I would always love to hear them practicing at the house. I guess that's how I became interested in music. My first albums were actually 8-tracks and it was mostly Elvis, but my dad had the Beatles, Creedence, and Janis Joplin 8-tracks that I would always be listening to. For my Birthday in the 4th grade my parents brought me to my first concert, which was Elvis at the Duluth arena in April of 1977. He later died that year in August. How many people can actually say that they have seen Elvis?? Well I have and I will always remember it, even though I had to use binoculars cause we were sitting pretty high up in the arena!
My neighbor, a couple blocks down the road, had a band that I started to hang out and listen to. I guess they broke me out of my Elvis phase cause they were playing KISS, Ted Nugent, Boston, and other hard rock and I was totally into it and that's when I decided I wanted to be a musician. I just loved the energy I was feeling and it was just a good high for me. So of course I ended up getting KISS, Boston, Foreigner, etc.. on 8-tracks and played the shit out of them! I always hated that track click right in the middle of "Long Time" on the Boston 8-track! I actually took drum lessons in the 3rd grade, but it didn't click with me. In the 7th grade my best friend and I took a guitar class in jr high, but we mostly screwed around and made up a song called "Mr. Patterson Sucks" cause we thought the teacher was lame! LOL! I guess I should of put a better effort into it cause it took me another couple years after moving out of Duluth to get back into it.
My new best friend was really into music and we decided to take real guitar lessons at the music store in Duluth called "Show-Pro". He actually was a faster learner than me so when we put our first band together called "ALLOY" he was the lead guitar. We called it "Alloy" after reading in a magazine about Def Leppard and what kind of metal they were and that's the kind of band we wanted to be like, except no one could sing. I probably would of been a decent singer cause I use to go to sleep when I was youger with head phones on listening to my Elvis 8-tracks and singing away, but I must of been pretty annoying cause my dad would come in the bedroom and tell me to shut up and that I sounded like a dead cow! LOL! So I blame it on my dad for becoming a musician, but not a singer! So we had one guy that was pretty decent, but not a screamer to do the now becoming 80's hair band music. I recruited my girlfriend for awhile and my guitar teacher played our homecoming and actually let our band get up and play. It was pretty exciting even though we only played the "Break up" song by Greg Kihn.
Well to make a long story short, that gave me the bug being onstage and after going into the service and meeting a lot of musician's in the Navy I have been influenced by alot of different people. The bands I have played in are "Alloy", "Bad Attitude", "Society's Child", "Damzel", "Charade", "Mr.Crowley", "Zealous", "Ventt", and currenty "Lasher". My first real Guitar was a Gibson Sonex and my first amp was a yamaha 50watt 2x12. Actually in 7th grade I had the Sears "special", guitar and amp combo. I really experimented alot with equipment and have spent way too much money in the process, but I'm in search of that "perfect sound"! LOL!! I currently have 4 guitars and my rig is rack effects. Still looking for that right cabinet. You can catch me jamming with Lasher The schedule is on the website and I have my dates posted on here under my calender. Thanx! Gary
