About Me

Imagine stepping into a familiar place where your neighbors meet to share strong coffee and friendly chat. The familiar sounds of people conversing and the faint clatter of spoons stirring coffee cups fills the air. Most of the time you will hear live piano and jazz, depending on who shows up to jam with what instruments. Your eye travels around the period green-painted room and you notice the photographs on the wall. Your gaze rests on old time glass and wood cases displaying fresh donuts. Autographed celebrities, along with scenes on and around Oak Street, are on display. Local artists hang their finest works on site here. A place like the Oak Street Cafe serves as a cornerstone of the values and charm that define the neighborhood we call home. Every neighborhood paints a self portrait of the people who live there. Our mission is to provide delicious home-cooked meals, fresh donuts, and hot coffee at a reasonable price.Oak Street Cafe is a warm and friendly cafe with a flair for the old Cafe's of the Southern United States in the 30's and 40's before the "fast food invasion."Folks tell us that we have the best food in all Uptown New Orleans on a daily basis. Our donuts, and coffee are fresh , and our service makes you feel at times better than the way you are treated at home.Nestled in the heart of Oak Street, the Oak Street Cafe shares the block with other great local businesses worth visiting. The short shopping street of six blocks at one time supported 7 barber shops. Now merchants and residents are enjoying a comeback and growth of new business activity. No stranger to Hollywood, major movie studios have been enchanted with the "Main Street" USA charm and feel. Several feature films, commercials, music videos and documentaries are being shot on location here. Our staff has been active in various hospitality and trade industry groups in Louisiana and the South like HENA, HSMA, NOMCVB, Chamber of Commerce, NACE and other networking organizations.Bring your laptop, because wireless Internet service is now available.Plan on a visit to Oak Street, won't you?
