Welcome to Sofia Rotaru's Unofficial myspace profile. My name is Vitalie, and I'm the host of this profile. Sofia Rotaru is one of my favorite pop singers and I'm one of her biggest fans. You've got to love her for her beautiful voice and songs. I heard a lot of good things about Sofia, and I've known people- both virtually and personally- who have met herself or her family before.
"Doamna Sofia," as I would call her in Romanian, was born on August 7th, 1947, in Morshyntsi, Chernotsy region, Ukraine, to parents of Moldavian origin. Her native language is actually Romanian. As a child Romanian was the only language she would speak in her family. However, she has recorded songs in 3 different languages: Russian, Romanian and Ukrainian.
She has recorded a large number of songs that were, and still are extremely popular to this day. Sofia has been on stages for over 30 years, and has acted in 2 different films, one of which "Gde ty, lybov'?" (Where are you, my love?) filmed by "Moldova-Film" in 1980, reflected her own career on stage. She has also been awarded a number of prestigious awards. She is considered "The Peoples Artist," of Russia, Moldova and Ukraine. Her favorite expression for cheers is "Noroc," which Moldavians use it universally. It means all of the following: "Hello," "Luck," and "Cheers!"Currently, she resides with her family in Ukraine, I believe in Kiev. This is as many biography details as I have so far. I'll be keeping my eyes on current events in Sofia's life, and keeping you updated through bulletins and bio updates on the profile itself.PLEASE NOTE:
