The band carried on regardless and built up a loyal following among people who wanted more out of their music than a "Funky Drummer" drum beat.
3 years of ignorance, humour, chaos, partying & extremely loud concerts almost paid off with large record companies like WEA sitting up and taking notice.
But this was the twighlight of the "Goth" scene and taking a year out in 91 to write the "ultimate" Violets set possibly proved to be a disaster. Within 1 year the scene had fallen on it's arse and larger record companies were generally uninterested.
After deciding to take matters into its own hands the band recorded a new single "Angels" (no - not the "Robbie" Angels - Take That were busy playing to 11 people at Coco Savannas at the time anyway) and were offerred a possibility of a deal with Expression Records - the label set up by Roxy Musics Phil Manzanera - the idea was for the band to release the initial pressing and test the water - if all went well The Violet Child had a new home.
All went bad - the single was never released ... there was no band due to a series of "incidents" - usually bass player related (when isn't it).
Singer Daniel Cloran & Matthew Warhurst have recently started the long drawn out process of recording a Violet Child Album. So far it's sounding very good - but it's going to take time ... so please ... be patient - you shall be rewarded.
What shape the album takes is likely to be a bit different - with classic older tracks mixed in with some new ones.
When it happens you'll find out about it here first.
Thanks.
The Violet Child.
